The Premiership - General Discussion

@ Benny

Nobody is denying that quality players (can) cost big money.

I'm merely denying your original assertion that a team will be successful in a particular season because they've spent a fortune on a player (singular), and pointing out that it's not guaranteed.

You now say
The point is if you want to buy quality players they will cost big money - That's how both City and Chelsea have reached the top - by spending big money on players

Shifting your point to encompass the purchase of a number of quality players (plural) over several seasons is a different argument, and one that I wouldn't necessarily disagree with even though a case could be made against it.

What has been the major change in Arsenal from last season to this ? All through the summer everyone was stating that we would overtake them then they buy one quality player for a big fee - something they were trying all summer and we now see what happens when you spend big money on a quality player - which was my original point. Arsenal were willing all summer to spend big whilst we scratched around for players like Aspas and Alberto who added minimal if anything to the squad.

When Arsenal provide success and I believe they will - it will be because of the signing of Ozil.

Despite last nights defeat at home to Dortmund they certainly look a sharper outfit with him in their ranks but to predict this early in the season that they'll win the title is a bit of a stretch, even for you Benny .

I didn't say "Title" though unless that's the only success a club can have. They do have a chance to win it though but can see them winning a trophy this season. It could be the title but think it will be the FA Cup and possibly 2nd in the league

And there's me thinking you were talking about them winning the title, don't know what brought that on.

Unless of course it was you talking about them winning the title

Buying a quality player for a big fee, will definitely improve a team. Who can deny that?

No one is, I think.

But this is the first big signing for Arsenal in awhile, short time ago their supporters were marching at the gates. I know a few people in football and all are perplexed with this signing. How did arsenal get him?

Suarez would add value to any team, as would Ozil. Will Ozil be enough to end the trophy drought? Maybe, we shall see.

Will keeping Suarez increase our chances for a trophy or title? Most definitely.

I am trying the stating the obvious post, seems a newkit norm now.

So I said "could" win them the title

Where as the first post you quoted was me saying he will bring them success.

What are they perplexed about ? Bale cost Madrid a lot of money so they need to balance at bit and Ozil and Higuain are two big players to help raise a bit of funds - it was daft of Madrid to sell him but can certainly see why Arsenal got him

I should have clarified. Perplexed that Real sold him.

Yeah definitely a lot of people asking why Madrid sold him as he was reaching his pinnacle of form. Can only think it was to raise money for the Bale deal and others they made during the summer. Madness to sell him.
