Although it was a while ago I saw him as he hasn't been playing much last season.

Well PSG have spent close to £80mil on two CB's

And thought Sakho was first choice last season ?

Maybe so, but Sakho was miles away in quality from them.

Doesn't matter what the end price is. Either way we were going to get screwed because - again - we have left it to the last minute and every sellling club in Europe knows it. Makes me wonder if LFC even uses the old boys' network. Would Sami know of players on the continent who might do a job for us ? Or Babbel ?

I expect him will be mate - Silva and Marquinhoes are top of the tree CB's hence why they cost so much but Sakho looked solid when I saw him - not wonderful on the ball but very solid in the tackle. He is very one footed though.

Yeah, also very cumbersome player, uncomfortable with the ball in general
No, he was not 1st choice last season. Alex was ahead of him in the important games.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Sakho was first choice for PSG last season. He was one of the best young defenders about 3 seasons ago. Alex is nowhere near as good as Sakho IMO. I was also wondering why Alex started instead of Sakho in the CL games but apparently it was because Silva doesn't speak French and Sakho doesn't speak Portuguese, so there was no communication between the two. Alex started for the sake of better communication.

I think that Sakho is a good defender. Maybe not THAT better than Skrtel, but keep in mind that I believe that Skrtel is also a good defender. They are a bit similar actually. Both are physically strong and good in the air. The major difference between the two is that Sakho is more calm and way better with the ball at his feet (contrary to what Penguins is saying). That's why I think he's the better option for us. I think that 13 million is about right for him. But if they want 20mil they can f*ck off.

f*cking hell, I can't believe Tottenham signed Eriksen! For 11.5 million! Why didn't we go for him? For that price, the guy is definitely worth it. I know that a lot of people don't rate him that high but I believe that he's one of the best young talents. Extremely disappointed, especially because it is Spurs that signed him.

And Lamela who is going to be an insanely good player.

Spudz will be challenging for the title next season, they will use this season to click together and will be incredibly hard to beat from here on in.

Meanwhile back at Liverpool HQ..........

"With Mamadou Sakho, who unfortunately decided one hour ago to finish his career with PSG and move to Liverpool. It is a shame"

I think that if we can get both Sakho and the lorry for a total 20 million, sell Skrtel for around 10-12 million and send Wisdom on loan, we could say that we've done a good bit of business. We may also need to sign one or two attacking players though, before this transfer window shuts.

I personally would rather keep Wisdom and keep the 7 million instead of signing Illory.

Liverpool close in on £7m Ilori deal
30 Aug 2013 22:44
The Sporting Lisbon player is just one of four players Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in before transfer deadline

Liverpool FC are on the brink of signing Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori for around £7million – one of four new arrivals boss Brendan Rodgers wants before Monday's transfer deadline.

The 20-year-old Portuguese centre-back is expected on Merseyside this weekend to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Rodgers is also hoping to tie up deals for Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, Chelsea winger Victor Moses and Aston Villa keeper Shay Given.

Liverpool have held positive talks with PSG over Sakho with the Reds close to agreeing a fee of around £12million. The France international is in the final year of his contract.

The ECHO understands that the targeting of two new centre-backs doesn't mean that any of the current crop will be moving on.

Rodgers views Ilori as an investment for the future with Sakho set to be brought in to compete with Daniel Agger, Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel for a first-team spot over the coming months.

The manager is also keen to boost his attacking options with a season-long loan deal for Moses still under discussion.

The Nigeria international is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge following their summer spending spree and there are a host of clubs keen to take him on.

Liverpool is Moses' favoured destination but Chelsea have so far been reluctant to allow him to make the switch to Anfield.

The Londoners view the Reds as a competitor for the Champions League spots this season and would prefer that he went elsewhere.

However, Liverpool are hoping their willingness to pay a loan fee and the 22-year-old's wages, coupled with the player's desire to sign, will help them get the deal done.

There is no truth in reports that the Reds have bid £19.7million for Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmalenko, but Rodgers is interested in bringing Villa's veteran shot-stopper Given to Anfield.

The 37-year-old is looking for a new club having fallen out of favour at Villa Park and the Reds are keen to secure his services.
Given's arrival wouldn't spell the end for Brad Jones with the Republic of Ireland star only having been offered the chance to be third choice behind Simon Mignolet and Jones.

Liverpool have been looking for more goalkeeping cover since Peter Gulacsi left to join Red Bull Salzburg.

its looking good for both our defensive targets and he says he's looking for 2 more in moses and given. if moses falls through then i hope we have another wide player lined up that is 1st team ready.

If the 19M euro quote about Sahko is true then it will make competition interesting when/if he joins up.

Given the way Kolo Toure has impressed not only with his defending but also with his leadership and talking at the back and even enthusiasm to impress, I could honestly see him and Sahko becoming the central defensive partnership a bit later on for us. For all of Danny's slick passing and eloquent style he does seem soft in the air and lacks the basic defensive duties where defenders like Carra, Henchoz, Hyypia and Toure don't.

I can see the Dane looking over his shoulder as much as Kolo and this is healthy competition. It will be a good thing for our central defenders, both Agger and Sahko are very left footed too, neither are blessed with and abundance of pace so as it stands it doesn't look like a natural partnership.

Toure, Agger, Sahko, Lorry, Kelly and Widom (not sure about Skertel now I can see his days being numbered) look decent enough to me. We'll just have to wait and see how this Sahko adapts, hopefully he'll come in like Toure and impress, fingers crossed.

True Tottenham are looking good but they have the Bale money to spend.
Haven't seen much of Eriksen but that seems a good price, if he is that good why weren't the mancs in for him though?
The other thing is we already have Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Allen and Alberto - signing another may hinder the improvement Henderson has shown, or affect what will hopefully be a better season for Allen. Plus maybe stop Alberto getting a game.

The priority had to be centre backs and finally we look like addressing that, I also think Llori could also double as a defensive midfielder.

My main concern is Moses, we give him game time and return him to Chelsea a better player - would much rather we stump up and buy someone else.

I do trust Brendan though.

And to think I received a PM from a mod over a year ago requesting that I moderated my behaviour towards BTN. I find the irony of your post more than a tad amusing..............

Early in the window some posters were moaning that our purchases were no better than what we already have. I suggested at the time that it was early days and we needed to display some patience. So far Mingolet,Toure and Aspas are showing positive signs. Alberto is one for the future. Early days but not quite the doom and gloom senario that several posters expected. And it looks like we might spend a bit more before the window closes.

Call me deluded I really don't mind. I would rather enjoy the ride rather than try and jump off when the going gets tough. I wonder if fans from other clubs hurl a constant steam of abuse at their owners if they fail to buy the best players in the world ? I prefer to behave like a fan rather than a small child. I have supported LFC for over 40 years and the memories are fantastic. If I had gone to Everton for my first game rather than Anfield my memories would be very different. Not disastrous but different. We fail to appreciate what we have got at times and demand too much.

I do believe that members need to refrain from name calling......as for individual posts...if they are sh&te , then that is what they are....I know I will be at the game tomorrow in a confident mood and hopefully that will play a small part in helping my team to victory.....I won't be sitting their moping like a frumpy teenager
