Signing a CB is the biggest test for BR and FSG. Failure to bring in a player means we throw our season away ,BR should place an ultimatum on this issue.

No surprise what spurs are doing this window. They are receiving a world record fee for Bale after all. They are however starting to build a pretty strong squad. Lamela is a top signing and surprised a bigger team didn't come in for him. Eriksen, not too convinced about at this stage and he is one I think he could go either way but I suppose for £8-10m, he is worth a gamble and you could question why we haven't had a stronger interest after missing out on other targets

So this summer Spurs will have signed

Chadli
Soldaldo
Capoue
Paulinho
Lamela
And now Eriksen next and also Bale might be staying !!!

Every single one improves the first team and everything single one is a player we should be looking to sign !! Why aren't we ?

Spurs are showing what you need to get into the top 4. Has it really got to the stage now where we can't compete with Spurs in the transfer market ?

No way Bale is staying mate. His good as gone. This is spurs bringing in players before they let him go. He is a massive loss to them but fair play to them, they haven't hung around and their squad is looking much stronger than last year

Bale won't be staying

We can't compete as they are spending the bale money

I know we've been cr@p in the transfer market but we'd be spending that amount of money if we were going to get £90m from one player sale

You have to give people a chance and I know about some of the problems inherited and mistakes made
but if we do nothing this week surely the fans will start to have a pop and put FSG under at least some
pressure.

They seem to have duped people into accepting second best and lowering expectation has been a key
part of their propaganda campaign since taking charge.

End of the day this is Liverpool, and if they cant at least bring one top player in before Monday I don't
think its acceptable after the wage cuts and departures and fans at any club need something to believe
in, and to see at least a chink light at the end of the tunnel.

At this point I don't think they are being fair, too cautious, but I want to be proved wrong by them.

I've always said I'd judge our business at the end but must say, at the moment it's not looking too great. Hoping we can pull a rabbit out of the hat in the last couple of days but having got the greatest of faith if i'm totally honest  :(

I've been telling myself the same thing but it's not really that good of an excuse mate. While Tottenham are spending big we're struggling to round up a full 18-player squad required for a game, and that's including youngsters such as Ibe and Sterling. We might have a few players out injured but it will be kind of pathetic to have 16 year olds on the bench against the mancs that haven't even had a training session with the first team never mind played a game.

At the end of the day there's only one question that matters; Do we want to get back to the Champions League or not?

If Spurs get Eriksen as well then it will be hard to disagree with Benny and his campaign against the owners.

Is that really the only way we can spend money ? By selling top players ?

We had the 9th biggest turnover last season - plus more telly money and commercial income this summer - where is it all going ?

no, it's not the only way to spend money and damjan i'm not trying to make excuses.

I was simply answering benny's question: "Has it really got to the stage now where we can't compete with Spurs in the transfer market ?"

The only way spurs spend money is through player sales. Well documented after selling bale it'll be their 4th season out of 5 with a profit.

Do FSG have the money to back BR in the transfer market?

Do they understand the consequences of not strengthening the team?

Do they care?

IMO, no is the answer for all questions.  We desperately need new Owners with plenty plenty cash (not Americans), as we're now finding out, these Owners are not willing to provide the funds to enable us to buy the quality we so very much need. Instead, they want BR to rely on players aged 17 and 18, players that are free and players we can get on a loan. F**k sake, this is really bad. What can we as fans do about this?

It doesn't matter that Totsh1te are spending the Bale money, fare do's I suppose, but, we at least should have made some enquiries about the newer acquisitions they've made, even if we didn't get them, we could have had a hand in hiking the price up I guess.

As fans we can't do much - we can talk with our feet and not buy tickets or merchandise etc but someone will always be there to buy it. The problem is a vocal group don't have a problem with them - think they are great , only have to read Rawk.

after last summers debacle you`d think the club would have learned it`s lesson.
the problem now though is if we go out and spent big money on someone now there`d be an element of desperation about it, we`d be signing someone for the sake of it.
i`ve been a critic of our recruitment policy this summer but we really cant afford to blow another £30m again panic buying.
i think we`ve just got to take it on the chin and hope we are somewhere near the top 4 in january, hopefully we`ll bring in a couple of top players then.

I can't ignore your comments anymore, the ignorance and stupidity is annoying me.

Spurs are clearly spending the Bale money, if you think he is staying go put your money where your mouth is - you'll make a very tidy sum.

Regarding your comments on turnover, your argument is complete nonsense.

1) Turnover includes all income, no need to separate out the TV money and commercial income.
2) Using turnover as an argument to suggest we have loads of money to spend is ridiculous. In case you missed last years financial statement, despite our turnover we had a pre-tax loss of -£40.5M

For the layman that means we spent more than we earned. Turnover means nothing when your expenditure consumes it.

FSG have made it very clear that Liverpool, like all their sports franchises, are self financed. They are not a benevolent owner with unlimited funds. Read Spurs accounts they are the same story, they do not spend more than they earn - they have no direct investment that the club do not pay for.

When you consider the debt state we were in under H&G (near on £500M), the fact we have reduced this debt to £80M with the help of a £50M interest free loan from FSG - I don't think beggars should be choosers.
