Willian apparently considering his options according to Sky Sports News. Maybe we are back in the mix?

hughes looks a very good player but at 18 he`s still at least 4 or 5 years away from really having an impact on the league, i think this building for the future malarky is a flawed plan because it only works if you can keep hold of your best players (which is something we are struggling to do).
then again maybe i`m looking at this from the wrong angle, i`m looking at this as someone who hopes we win the league some day, if the plan is to buy top young talents for a relatively modest fee and then sell them on to clubs who are trying to win things for big money then then i can see the logic.
maybe the plan is to turn us into the english version of ajax, a prestigous selling club.
if rodgers, henry, werner and co. genuinely think we can bring through a team of young talents and keep them together long enough to achieve success without them getting poached by other clubs then they are living in la la land.

On Hughes:

Ben Smith (BBC) has said we have scouted him extensively but have no plans to bid this summer.

10 million for an 18 year old? I've never seen him play but you know how it is with these young talents, one moment he looks like the next Steven Gerrard and then a season or 2 after we never hear from him again.

Not for me to answer but he`s saying if they carry on not showing ambition, players will be leaving. After all Reina gone because we couldnt afford his wages by the managers omission it was solely down to money a week after telling us he`s going nowhere, we need qualitly competition.

Wednesday 21 August 2013

Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for the £10m-rated Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, whom they would leave at the Championship club for the rest of the current season.

The England Under-21 international, who is 18, has long been regarded as one of the brightest talents in English football. He made his Championship debut for Derby at the age of 16 and was a regular in the side last season, playing 35 league games.

Hughes has been watched extensively over the last six months by Liverpool's chief scout, Barry Hunter. The teenager's performances have merited the attention of all the leading Premier League clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal, but it is Liverpool who are prepared to pay the premium price for an English talent and leave him at his current club to develop for another year.

Hughes played for England Under-21s against Scotland last week and impressed once again. He is part of a small group of English players who the Football Association hopes can be developed in the next cycle of Under-21s to make the step up to senior level within the next four years.

Unlike many young players of his age group, Hughes has extensive first-team experience – albeit it at Championship level. While he will represent a considerable investment, and a risk, Liverpool are aware that the price is only likely to rise over the coming months.

Yes, we need another midfielder...... :lookaround

we have been hemorraging top players for a while now (torres, alonso, mascherano, arbeloa etc), why do you think we went from 2 time CL finalists to a side  finishing 6th, 7th and 8th? bad luck or something?
you can be pedantic as you want but the fact remains that suarez desperately wanted out and the only reason he is still here is because he has 3 years left on his contract, rodgers himself said that next summer they probably wont be able to keep luis because once his contract gets below 2 years his value will plummet.
if you think the likes of suarez and coutinho are happy to hang around a club finishing outside the CL places for the rest of their careers you are in for a shock.
forget the likes of city, united and chelsea, at the moment we are struggling to hold on to the coat tails of arsenal and spurs.
