Aly Cissokho: Liverpool agree loan deal to sign left-back from Valencia

By Ben Smith
BBC Sport
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Aly Cissokho on loan from Valencia.
However, the 25-year-old left back, who has one France cap, will not be available for the opening match of the season against Stoke on Saturday.
He is expected on Merseyside next week to finalise a move which could become permanent next summer.
Manager Brendan Rodgers had wanted to sign another left back, Guilherme Siqueira from Spanish club Granada, but the clubs failed to agree a fee.
More to follow.

Heard that LFC will go back with an improved offer. I expect him to come soon.

Another player who is on his way out who would be a good backup option would be Scott Parker.... Shouldnt cost much and can still do a job.

I've never liked Parker me to be honest.
Think he is overrated and on the slide.
His wages will be pretty high as well probably.

Just read LFC are favourites ahead of the mancs to sign Willian.

Suarez is training with the first team after apologising.

Cissoko has potential medical problems which saw him fail his medical at AC Milan. His teeth? Let on that he could have possible heart/muscle problems in the future reminding us of the potential there, Marc Vivian foe or that young lad down at Spurs.  :(

Quite disappointed if we haven't got Siqueria. Seems a player definitely under the radar.

Cissohko will be a squad member - certainly allow Enrique to be rested

Apparently Barcelona are looking to sell and Rafa (Napoli) are interested in bringing him in. He'd probably cost somewhere between 10-15mill and my only hope is that he does not join any of our rivals if he does indeed leave Barcelona this summer. Would be interesting to know how people feel about him now...

As a player he would be great to have back but he refused to play for us to try and force a transfer through - wouldn't ever want him to wear a Liverpool shirt again after that. Also don't believe he would come back - he left for CL football

So we open talks with Anji for Willian seal a deal for Cissoko and Suarez appologises and joins in first team training.

All on the same day that gustavo turns down Arsenal for Wolsfburg.

Looks lik with cissoko coming in and maybe willian that hendo gerrard lucas and allen wil be our def mids. With downing gone we wil have coutinho, sterling, aspas maybe sturridge playing in the wide positions of the 3, behind suarez. Looks nice.

                   Mignolet
Johnson agger toure enrique
              Gerrard lucas
  Sturridge willian coutinho
                    Suarez
Maybe overly attack minded but could def be a top 4 line up

Either way I think it looks a decent line up. Finally startin to get a bit of hope back. Doubt there will be any more defender coming in as we have wisdom? skrtel coates kelly? Cissokho? All able to play in the centre and left and right. Henderson and allen as cover for the middle and aspas borini alberto sterling as attacking options.

Last season at times BR had Sturridge on the bench whilst he had a front three of Downing , Suarez and Coutinho leaving three mids behind them - I can see that happening more often with hopefully Willian in the wide berth. Against certain teams ( that sit back ) then possibly we have a more attacking front 3 ( becomes a 4 ) - but I would be wary of having Coutinho in that centre mid area leaving just Gerrard and Lucas behind. Have to find the balance. Struggled to find that at times last season. Still think we really need a far stronger CB - it could be our downfall.

I agree, I think having a better CB could potentially allow us to play an attacking quartet in some of the tricky games as well (Sunderland, Southampton, Newcastle..etc)
I know its widely accepted as fact, but Im not sure scoring goals was our biggest problem last season and I dont see it as being our biggest problem going into this season either. Relying on Toure is a huge gamble and one we dont really have to take given the fact we have have money to spend.
