hopefully we can get this one done, after being linked with practically every available player on the planet (papadopolous, alderweired, mkhitaryan, muriel, bernard, costa, erickson, soldado etc etc) it would be nice to see someone actually put pen to paper.

stats can be misleading, a player can play a major role in creating a goal without actually getting awarded an assist, just look at coutinho`s `no look` through ball against newcastle which set sturridge and hendo free, for all intents and purposes that goal was created by the vision and brilliance of phil coutinho but danny got credited with the assist for simply knocking the ball 10 yards to his left into the path of hendo.
i think this willian is exactly what we need, he compliments coutinho`s and sturridge`s games perfectly, if we would have brought in a soldado type it would have meant a game of musical chairs in our forward line.

Exactly my thoughts. Willin had two or three good games in the CL and got overrated. I'd still have him though, because there aren't too many better players that we can attract at the moment, just not for that much money.

You don't need to look any further than Xabi Alonso's stats at Liverpool to support exactly what you are saying.

The guy is electric - creates things , he isn't always at the end of something but he is always starting things , being right in the middle - he plays a bit like Ronaldinho . He would be a quality player for us - would link up well with Coutinho

In the spirit of fairness everyone, just note, a positive and insightful post from Benny. I'm not gonna highlight them all, but often tinted glasses will only see one colour and for that reason I flagged it.

@Benny, I'd be interested to know where these opinions come from. I have to be honest, I don't have the time to spend watching other leagues and barely have the chance for the EPL a lot of the time, that's also why I like to follow this board. By the way you speak about him (and others) it seems to me you spend a fair bit of time following other leagues as opposed to quickly watching a YouTube greatest hits and reading a WIKi article?

Cheers in advance

From watching him when he was playing for Shakter in the CL and also Europa Lge. They always are a team that excite and pull off great results ( knocking out Chelsea for example ). For a couple season you never really noticed Willian - he just got on the ball from the left , go round a couple then pass the ball , he seemed afraid to take a risk by having a shot or play a killer pass, but over the last 2 seasons he has flourished , become more central to the play , drifts from the wing and gets himself far more involved. Last season in the CL he was brilliant - you could see he was maturing and developing into a high quality player. He isn't in the top level of players but he isn't far away and has the ability to get there. He won't be cheap but I think it's a signing worth the risk and if the owners get him then ill be impressed

How many goals did Xabi Alonso score for us, still a bloody brilliant player wasn't he?  Its not all about the goals, its about the build up to the goals, the contribution.

Cant believe people are moaning already saying he`ll be no good for us and not for that money before we havent even made a bid. Put it this way he would be a vast inproement on downing.
If we get him I expect bid of  around  26m to do it.

You do realize alonso played deep in the midfield? Anyway theres more that just the potential with this guy he`s scored agaisnt top sides in the CL as well as 7 in 22 for shaktar. I can see him being well suited to our style and the players around him
