Would certainly be a very creative front 4 that looks very good on paper. Just worry there would be natural width.

Modern wide players come inside allowing the FB`s space to get forward, the days of the winger are gone so I dont think width would be a problem as long as our FB`s are up to the job and the ones we`ve been linked to definitely like to get forward as do the ones we already have.
I think if there is anything to the Willian link it would be for one of the wide positions and he is certainly the type of player we should be in for especially after his recent good comments concerning the club, but we`ll just have to see how committed we are to regain CL football.

If we are going to ask the fullbacks to provide width then we certainly need a stronger more mobile DM. With the fullbacks pushing up and the CB'a playing a high line the team become open to teams sitting then breaking quickly on the counter. If you have a strong DM he would be able to cover for the Fullbacks going forward. A clear example of the dangers was against Arsenal early season last year - Podolski first goal - Gerrard and Allen gave the ball away - GJ was stranded high and they had acres to drive into and exposed us.

Well I dont agree that Lucas isnt mobile, he naturally took time to get back up to speed and hopefully this season he`ll be back to his best but that remains to be seen. Also the player next to him needs to use his head and pick his time getting forward but even if for the most part he sits quite deep off Lucas it still leaves 6 players in attack. Arsenal are a good side and quick on the counter, your always going to lose goals against good teams. If we were getting caught time and again in the same fashion I would agree but as things stand I think its more about players using their heads as were we not ahead when we lost that goal? That was the disappointing thing about it if memory serves.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see which tactics BR uses - he started off last season trying to replicate what Barce play but we don't have the players to fit that system and not sure it works in the prem. When Sturridge arrived he changed it bit by going a bit more direct quick and early to Sturridge - it seemed that most of our better play came from the quick slick passing as opposed to the retain possession 5 yard square pass type "tiki taka" play

Oh I agree about that I`m not a fan of the chicken tika footy at all and for the most part if your not the best team on the planet its fkin boring I like a side to pass with purpose, the best footy Ive seen us play for a long time was 2009 when we cut through sides at ease. I hope like you we stick to the style we had towards the end of the season as we are not barcelona and we dont play in spain, even barcelona are having problems playing like barca and they can go out and sign any player they wish to suit their style. The game is so much quicker in england your asking for trouble knocking the ball about your center backs and generally playing without purpose.

Spot on mate

I think it also gets the best out of Coutinho and Sturridge - gives them loads of space

From the mirror

Liverpool have opened transfer talks with Anzhi over Brazilian winger Willian.
Liverpool are targeting Willian after Anzhi indicated they are willing to offload the Samba star just eight months after buying him from Shakhtar Donetsk for £32million as they slash costs.
Brendan Rodgers wants a marquee signing and has set his sights on Willian, who is also wanted by Tottenham, after failing to land Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa.

The Reds are yet to talk figures and Anzhi would want to recoup most of the fee they paid for the 25-year-old Willian.
Liverpool would also have to pick up the former Corinthians star's £100,000-a-week wages.
This does not deter them and owners Fenway Sports Group have promised Rodgers they will bankroll a major signing to excite the fans and boost their Champions League hopes.
Liverpool's interest is not dependent on Luis Suarez's future and the club do not need to sell the Uruguayan to land Willian.

Really would love to see this guy sign - would finally see the owners and manager show some real ambition.

with selling carroll, downing and spearing as well as getting carraghers and reina`s high wages off the books we must be comfortably in the black this summer, surely the funds are there to bring in a marquee signing?

Willian? Looking at his stats he doesn’t actually get that many goals or assists despite playing for top club teams in Brazil, Ukraine and Russia. He played well against Chelsea and scored 2 goals but he doesn’t seem to provide enough output if the stats are correct.

Not terribly excited by the prospect of him either. Not much end product. I'd rather have Masch back, tbh.
