he has said earlier in the year that he wanted to get all his business done early. we went and spent 25 odd million and now he is saying that none of them are real 1st team players  judging by his comments after the preston game he is very pleased with mingy, toure and aspas so i really doubt they are squad fillers.
if we had our 1st team targets identified then i dont see what the hold up is other than as you said, selling suarez. i still expect others to go as in reina, coates and skrtel with possibly downing added to that so we could have a lot of work to do in the closing weeks.
the fact that rodgers has claimed that stevie signing a contract was possibly the most important signing this summer says it all.

Well i think the manager needs to speak to the players that have arrived and tell them they are just squad players - they seem to think different.

If the manager has identified some "first team" players then hopefully they will be signed very soon - or as some suspect we are awaiting for Suarez to be sold before buying again which points to a sell to buy scenario and never getting top 4 - and if it sell to buy then where the feck has our money gone ? 9th biggest turnover in club football !!

If Gerrard is the most important signing of the summer - then we are fecked.

I totally agree with Benny on this.

Its one thing buying these young kids and punts from Spain but to get top 4 you need top quality proven lads in the side.

Rodgers might well be a genius if he can groom a team into top 4 but history tells us different and money talks even though
we have wasted a shitload in the past.

Just as a side comment we would not be crapping it if a rival signed Alberto, Aspas or Toure, and that is how you keep it real.

This is what he said to LFC tv

“I’m absolutely delighted, as you can imagine,” Rodgers told LFC TV.

“I’ve talked throughout pre-season about wanting to bring other players into the group, but this was one of the – if not the – most important signings for us.

Is Brendan a berk too  :D

you said 'that says it all'

says what exactly? to me it says he wants Gerrard to still be a major player in our rebuilding for the near future. but to some it obviously read as 'we aint buying anyone else and we're doomed' .

Well he's not going to say, "Thats Steve signed up now for the important signings" is he, I think you are reading too much into that statement

You're definitely reading too much into it, red. It's just the cliche thing to say when a good player signs a new contract, especially if it's a legend like Gerrad. To be honest, I've never bothered reading statements or watching interviews on matters such as this one.

it's all gone a bit quiet on transfer news.

Brendan must be counting up his green shield stamps ready to land 2 top drawer signings.  :nod

Not looking to provoke with my response so don't take it that way. I think that the stalling is most likely very simple. No doubt they had a plan and that didn't include Suarez, why would we go to the effort to pay him more and secure him on a contract if we wanted to offload him? Doesn't make sense to me. On top of that I think if we had the strategy to offload him and it was contingent  on our summer budget, I am sure it would have happened ahead of the window opening, especially considering the preparation that they apparently had done this yr.

For me they were thrown a curveball with Suarez and wisely are holding off on certain things to see how it pans out for the obvious reasons.

For those who say Suarez has damaged the club or continues to do so, I don't really agree. It hasn't helped us greatly at times, but we're strong enough to ride those things out and would be stupid to let go of him if we can avoid it. We're not the only club to have had these struggles over the last 10 years so there's little reason to be concerned. Arguably those who panic on here, who talk about us becoming a mid-table club are reacting with a mid-table club mindset. Relax, let it play out and see what happens. We're being linked to some serious players in the deals now, so perhaps not all is doom and gloom. When the situation changes I'd like to read your feedback/opinions with interest, but this constant showboating pretending that you all know better than the club is beyond ridiculous.

to me it says dont hold your breath on a major signing, thats it, my opinion and nothing more.
i never said anything about not signing more players or we are doomed so you can put that brush away.
only 6 weeks left in the window so we will see whether a major signing will arrive or not.

Jesus mate, I was only asking a question to inspire discussion. I actually agree with most of your comment.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

according to barrett we are interested in signing bernard.
the telegraph reckons we`ve contacted his club athletico minero but it also says a host of CL clubs and 2 other english clubs (believed to be arsenal and spurs) are monitoring the situation also.
he`d be a fantastic signing imo.

the star has us linked with gameiro.
id love if we signed that burak yilmaz. he looks to have a lot to his game and is powerful. he could lead the line for us easily and would offer a threat from set pieces.

this bernard lad is very similar to that luis muriel, lightening quick, incredibly skillful and knows how to score goals from wide area`s (he even scores quite a few headers because he ghosts in at the far post like all top wide players do).
he`s stronger than he looks too. he`s the same age as coutinho and hopefully phil being here (and lucas) might encourage him to sign for us.
if we could somehow pull this one off we`d have one of the most exciting forward lines in the prem, even if suarez goes.

                                                          aspas                   sturridge                 bernard
