He's 24 now so it's not like we'd be buying potential. Would he be an improvement on Agger or Skrtel or even put sufficient pressure on them for a place? Is he any better than young lads like Coates, Kelly or Wisdom? I'm not convinced he would be. We need to be looking to buy in a top class centre back to be our main man at the back who can forge a partnership with Agger. Skrtel I don't particularly rate but he'd do as backup for next season.

If I say he comes to Liverpool and you say Chelsea then we would probably both lose. But if we're talking about a situation with no other alternative but the two clubs, then him choosing Liverpool is far more realistic. I just can't see him going to Chelsea.

Yeah because "he gets us" isn't it? Probably the last high paying contract he's gonna get, why wouldn't he join Chelsea who can pay far more than us and also offer Champions League Football. If they don't qualify for the CL then maybe yeah he won't join Chelsea, but if they do, it's a very tempting deal for him.
