Vegard Forren to train with Liverpool FC with a view to a permanent move

NORWEGIAN international defender Vegard Forren will train with Liverpool FC tomorrow – hoping to convince the Reds he is worth a permanent switch to Anfield.

Reports that a £4m deal has already been completed are premature.

But the Reds have confirmed that the 24-year-old, who has five full caps, will train at Melwood for a few days with a view to a permanent move.

Other clubs are monitoring Forren's situation and it is believed he is after regular first-team football should he make a Premier League switch.

Forren has made 179 appearances for his boyhood club Molde, winning the Tippeligaen in both of the last two seasons.
Former Liverpool and Norway defender Vegard Heggem had his say on the potential deal earlier today on Twitter.

He wrote: "Forren has done very well in the Norwegian league and for Norway. Good enough for LFC? Not sure, but an exciting signing in my opinion if it happens.

"He is a tough player, loves to get stuck in. Reads the game well, good passer of the ball but unproven at top international level."

Forren, who made his competitive international debut in October, was watched in person at least twice by Everton manager David Moyes recently.

Fulham and Belgian side Club Brugge were also linked with a move for the defender.

In November Forren, when asked about a move to England and links with the Blues, said: "I cannot stand here and say that I’m not interested - after all the Premier League is involved and Everton are a great club.

"I feel ready. I have had many great matches in the Europa League in the league and the national team.

"I have done well and it tempts me more and more to take the next step.

"I have developed myself a lot this year but right now my focus is on performing well."

the whole thing sounds a right carry on.
by the looks of it though everton have been interested in him for a while, apparently one of the everton forums has a 27 page thread about him and that was before tonights news broke that he`s having a weeks trial at melwood.
that thread is probably 150 pages now   :D .

With Coates in the team, along with Kelly and Wisdom, I don't see why would we go after another CB. The guy doesn't sound like the next Hyypia either.

Rodgers said he wants Coates to go out on loan (QPR and West Brom supposedly interested) in order to develop and in all likelihood Carragher will decide to call it a day at end of the season. So it’s not surprising were interested in a centre back. I’m pretty sure the Norwegian league is in the middle of an extended winter break so it’s not really that shocking that he’s coming on trial for a few days.

I think we’ll add at least one more but probably more depending on who we can get rid of. It wouldn’t surprise me if we sign a centre back, a number 10 like player to play in front of the 2 central midfielders, and a wide forward (most likely Ince or Gameiro).

what a great idea though, taking potential new signings on trail for a few training sessions to see how they adapt/perform. Got to be a lot better than just spunking millions out first them finding out they're cack. Well done LFC for thinking it through.

An £8m bid for Sneider (sp?) is "reported" this morning.

He is defo stalling on going to Galatasary, even though a bid from them has been accepted, apparently as he wants to play in the EPL.

The fee is a bargain, especially looking at what we've paid for players recently, even if he is 28.  I cannot bring myself to even think we would do anything so bold as sign him, but aside from his scary wages, he would be the experience Gerrard was crying out for.

Dare we dream????   :eyebrow  :lookaround  :D

I don't see that as a snub or a big deal.

Maybe he made the decision based upon him actually getting a game down there and being 5th in line at CB at Anfield?

Who would blame him for that?  Sure, we are bigger and better, but if that is his preference how is that a snub?

Liverpool FC drop interest in Norway defender Vegard Forren after Molde agree fee with Southampton

LIVERPOOL FC have shelved plans to hand a trial to Norwegian centre-back Vegard Forren after his club Molde agreed a £4million fee with Southampton.

The 24-year-old was due to start a week-long stint at Melwood today but has instead headed for the South Coast to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was happy to take the opportunity to run the rule over Forren, whose progress has been closely monitored by other Premier League clubs such as Everton and Fulham in recent months.

However, he was not high on Rodgers’ list of priorities – hence why Liverpool only offered him a trial and at no point submitted a bid for the defender.

When Molde informed Liverpool about Southampton’s firm offer Rodgers made it clear the Reds wouldn’t be matching it and recommended they took the deal offered by the Premier League strugglers.

Forren wanted regular first-team football and unlike the Reds, Southampton are in a position to be able to offer him that immediately.

The defender flew to Manchester yesterday and stayed in Liverpool overnight but following Southampton’s late interest he headed south today with agent Jim Solbakken.

Molde boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “We have had a good dialogue with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who wanted to speak with Vegard and see him in training.

“We agreed that he could go there to see the conditions. But Liverpool have not made a bid.”

Forren rejected the chance to sign for FC Bruges in December 2011 as he was holding out for a move to England.

“For me the Premier League is the best place to play football. That is what we are working towards now if there is something there,” he said.

“I want to go to a club where I feel that I am focused on. It must be possible to play regularly throughout the season.

“Playing in the Premier League would of course be a big challenge if I get the chance. It’s a different pace of football. But I have developed a lot through good experiences in the Europa League and with the national team. It gives me confidence that I can perform in the Premier League.”

Defensive cover is not a priority for Rodgers, who is still hoping to complete the transfer of Blackpool winger Tom Ince before the end of the transfer window.

However, the Reds boss was willing to take a look at Forren as he considers the possibility of allowing centre-back Sebastian Coates to spend the rest of the season out on loan.

The Uruguay international, who has made just nine appearances this season, didn’t even make the bench for Sunday’s defeat at Manchester United.

“It has been difficult for him to get games and the best thing for Sebastian would be to go out and get his games,” Rodgers said.

Then they are both a bunch of C&*ts in my opinion, well Ian Ayre is incomeptent as well. Why on earth would you not move heaven and earth to get someone of Sneijder's ability but be willing to look like a pr1ck resigning a promising yongster for the same amount of money?

same amount of money?  Sneijder wants 250k a week in wages and even Manure walked away at those prices.

Same transfer fee amount, obviously wages a bit different.  :D

The Norwegian league has finished, it runs from Spring to Autumn with a break in the summer. He would be a very good signing as he is a solid defender and for £4million you can't go far wrong but it looks like he's signing for Southampton.
