Pity because if we signed another quality winger or attacking midfielder we would be in with a possibility. 

it makes tom werner out to be full of ***** imo with his whole "we have money" and "actions will speak louder than words" bull he fed us a while back.
if we are that tight for money then we should sack the scouting network as they are doing nothing and rodgers seems to have his own ideas on who he wants so whats the point in having them .

if our better players hit form we are more than good enough to challenge for a top 4 spot, even without more additions to the squad.
the problem has been that too many of them have been out of form, and out of form for a long time as well.
but now there seems to be one or two signs that things are picking up, the likes of gerrard, reina, downing and henderson have definately improved recently and added to the consistent performers like luis, johnno, agger and skrtel we are finally starting to look like a side.
if sturridge can hit the ground running and maybe weigh in with 10 or so goals between now and the end of the season and our key players like gerrard and suarez can keep their current form going we wont be a million miles away come may.

Although I feel the same (in terms of us things picking up for us) I still think even if we found form for a number of games we would not be able to sustain a high enough points run to get us into 4 with the current squad we have. I think we saw Gerrard turn the corner recently as he is dishing out assists and goals regularly. Reina has been a bit better and I can't fault Johnno, Agger, Skrtel AND Enrique (before he got injured). The problem we still have is that we can't expect the likes of Shelvey, Downing, Henderson or our younger brigade to carry us to 4th its unreasonable and unlikely. Also I think expecting Sturridge to step in and score 10 goals in our 17 remaining games is way too much. That's more than 1 goal every 2 games, a task even Suarez couldn't muster in HIS first 17 or 18 games for us.

No, we definately need re-inforcements as injuries will begin to take their toll and outside our key players (Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Gerrard, Lucas, Suarez) we are bereft of both experience and quality. When you look at who will be challenging for 4th (Arsenal, Tottenham, etc) you can start to see the chasm that exists between us and them. This something that hopefully Brendan can address either this month or at the end of the season.

I never get why a club would come out and say "we got loads of money to spend" = push the price up those lfc yanks are prats.

If it is true then FSG need to wake up smell the mid table finish.

FSG do not deserve to be owners of a big club with high ambitions like Liverpool. They are going to drag Liverpool down to mid table mediocrity if they remain owners for the long term. They are always reluctant to spend and invest in the club. BR hinted that Sturridge may be the only signing in January. I am certain he would like to sign T.Ince back and upcoming future England goalie Butland, but he said unlikely we'll have the funds to sign them. This kind of news really make my blood boil and hate and disgusted by this FSG even more. I just want them to sell to someone else who can do the heavy funding to get us back to where we belong. Just because we have the history doesn't mean good quality players will want to come. They only want to join clubs who are in the CL and Suarez won't be here for long if we remain a mid table side and who would blame him when the day comes when he wants to leave, I for one, wouldn't.

FSG reluctant to spend? Since they’ve been in charge only Chelsea and Man City have had a higher gross and net spend than us. The signing of Sturridge means as it stands we’ve had a £30+ million net spend for the two full seasons they have been in charge. Only Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd have spent more in the past 2 seasons.

These relentless accusations just don’t stack up if you actually take the time to have a look at the figures.

You can't complain about the owners for not spending money on transfers but you can ofcourse fault them for letting others handle it in a bad way. As others have mentioned we are up there amongst the top spenders both net and gross.

The problem is we have made 1 single find whatsoever and most of the "safe" big money signings have been a disaster.
And even the ones that have turned out ok or good, we have been forced to pay maximum for.

we have also spent a lot of money on potential, the likes of carroll, henderson, allen and borini were all 21 when we signed them and nowhere near their peak but their combined transfer fee`s add up to near £90m.
spending so much on potential when we were out of the top four and so far off the pace probably wasnt the best idea, especially in the wake of the H&G saga and hodgsons tenure. investing in the future is important but it wasnt our priority at the time.
in hindsight that money should have been spent on more established players who could have come into the side and made more of an immediate impact and helped us close the gap between us and the top clubs.
we should have invested in potential from a position of strength i.e when we were CL regulars again.

But then you have the arguement that established players (who usually have high wage demands) would not want to come to us because we can't offer them CL football. Personally I don't subscribe to that notion, as I think our club is big enough to attract these players, but some on here do.

Also this whole FSG strategy of spending big on "younger players" hasn't really paid off as we have mostly been going for players that are considered "safe" buys and as Penguins posted above they have been average at best.

We have to wake up to ourselves and admit that we have blown a LOT of money of average players and we can't blame the likes of Hodgson, Twiddle Dee, Twiddle Dum or Rafa anymore. This is something we really need to start fixing and Rodgers only seems to be adding more average players to the squad. We almost need to emulate what Arsenal have done since Wenger has been in charge, scouting very good young players from across the globe WITH THE ONLY DIFFERENCE being that we don't sell them when their contracts come to an end and keep adding established players to ensure we are challenging each season and our better players like Suarez DON'T LEAVE.

So it looks like the sum total of our transfer dealings will be a player the Chavs are only delighted to get 12m for (considering he hasn't kicked a ball in anger for them since the Red Sea was parted) and a young nipper we sold for sod-all only months ago (again, the seller is laughing at us).
How depressing is that, when you see the wealth, breadth and depth of those clubs we would have looked down on in the past?

sky sports reporting fenway has made an out of court "confidential" settlement with the two cowboys   over the sale of the club.
strange one as i never thought we had anything to answer for.

Hicks and Gillett have been on the back foot from day one on this issue and recently failed to have the court date delayed further. I’m guessing they got next to nothing or maybe even diddly squat.
