True, Moneyball focuses on more established players who meet specific statitical parameters, no idea what they would be for football though.

i didnt know their baseball team finished bottom of the league, i thought they were one of the top teams, that probably means that they are going to have to spend a good few bob to strengthen the red sox.
it`s not an ideal situation for fsg when the squads on both sides of the atlantic need heavy investment.
if any of the `franchises` is going to lose out i reckon it will be us, baseball is their first love and that article says the red sox are worth a billion quid. they wont want a franchise worth that amount losing value.
the stadium redevelopment is going to cost a small fortune as well.

I think this company will run a steady ship and keep us out of major debt but I personally dont
think they are in a position to keep both sports ventures going and meet customer expectations.

If they were being fair to both clubs I think one should go personally and focus on giving that their
full attention and investment.

Quite how they plan to revamp Anfield and make us a top team in England is beyond me when they
clearly dont have the sort of money (or arent willing to spend it) to make the dream reality.

Its not fair stringing both sets of fans along with propoganda if they cant deliver the goods and at
some point they may have to make a decision one way or another and cut a club loose.

I can't help but feel these owners are pretty amateurish when it comes to all things football, then again they're Yanks whose first love is rounders and have only just gotten into football - so it's pretty much turned out to be a worst case scenario. Their f.uck up, this summer has done more harm to our team than any manager could muster.

If FSG do not release funds for Brendan to really strengthen his squad in January, then I think a lot more supporters will be asking questions about their ambition. They continually say they want us to be successful, yet their actions do not match their words and they could well find themselves in the same hot water that the previous owners found themselves in. Making promises and not keeping them. They promised to back Rodgers and so far that has not happened, it needs to happen in January and in the summer.

Tom Werner has insisted that far from selling any of their stars in the January, Liverpool will be splashing the cash in the transfer window.

The Anfield chairman has dismissed fears that Manchester City will attempt to steal away Luis Suarez in the new year, by insisting the club's prize asset is not for sale at any price.

And instead, the American co-owner of Liverpool has promised that he and fellow owner John Henry will put a smile on the face of the fans when business is complete at the end of January.

Like everyone at Anfield on Saturday, Werner was truly wowed by Suarez's performance in the 3-0 victory over Wigan, and he adamantly declared the Reds will resist everything moneybags City will throw at the task of signing the Uruguay international.

"He's a beautiful player to watch and as a Liverpool fan I hope I'm watching him for many years to come. We wouldn't even consider selling him, absolutely not," Werner insisted.



"We made a long term contract with him in the summer and we are going to see a lot of his play at Liverpool."

Instead, Werner knows that he and his fellow owners must do something to repair damaged morale at Anfield, by bringing in some new faces in January.

And he explained that the process is at an advanced stage, with the very real prospect of some big spending on the horizon, even if he wouldn't reveal any figures.

"Our intention is to strengthen but actions will speak louder than words. That is certainly our intention though," he added.

"We know that January is a challenging time and I don't want to say we've got X or Y player, but hopefully the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish.

"I don't want to say more than I've said in that it is our intention to strengthen the squad. But our intention is to deliver is our priority."

it's ok saying it. actions speak louder than words.

This could be the most significant transfer window in the clubs history. fuk this up and they could fuk the whole job up.

I really hope they do deliver and help Rodgers and the lads out but like usual with Werner
he says a lot without saying anything at all.

I appreciate they have have their own valuation on players but at the end of the day its
the selling club that sets the price not the buyer, and unless you are prepared to go that
extra few bob to get what you want it will be hard to get any deals done.

I dont expect them to go crazy and pay daft money but some of the quibbling on deadline
day was embarassing and they need to sharpen up their act transfer wise and get Ayre on
his toes setting these deals up now instead of farting about on deadline day like some tinpot
outfit.

I would never wish this on the club or the player, but if Suarez gets injured or suspended before Jan this may well make BR's life easier.  He will literally have no-one to play up front, and the need to buy will be perceived to be much higher.  This may stop us messing about for a couple of million quid on a multi million pound deal.

If Suarez is still fit and banging them in, I worry Werner and Ayre may do another "dempsey".

Strong rumours today from Tony Barrett (Times) and Dominic King (Mail), both very reliable sources, that we will make a renewed bid for Sturridge. They say that the deal will be worth £15M.

I'd offer 15M for Torres instead.
