How far back are you going ?

During our late 70's then 80's years we had Kenny getting 20 plus league goals a season and then Rush , then Aldo , then Rush again then God then Owen then Torres.

We always scored lots but we always had a goalscoring striker to get a lot of goals

keegan never scored more than 15 league goals in any one season but was generally regarded as the best player in english football throughout the 70`s.
toshack had a similar record.
by the way 20 league goals is quite hard to achieve, ian rush achieved it 4 times in his first 7 season spell at the club but he never achieved it when he came back.
rush spent 15 seasons at anfield, scored goals by the bucketload but only achieved 20 league goals 4 times.
kenny played 10 full seasons at anfield and only managed it twice (his first 2 seasons at the club)
owen never managed to score 20 league goals in a season for us and fowler like kenny spent a decade at the club and only manged it twice.
the impressive one was aldo, in the 2 full seasons he played in a red shirt he scored over 20 league goals in both of those seasons, phenominal really when you consider how hard it is to do (though he was in his prime and playing in a great side)
make no mistake if suarez or borini score 20 league goals in a season then that is a notable achievement, and to be fair to the players playing in the prem era they only have 38 games not the 42 it used to be to achieve that milestone (although fowler bridged the gap between the 42 and 38 game seasons, one of his 20 goal seasons was achieved playing 42 league games)

I think it would be insane for us to not bid for Dempsey right now. I mean, how the f are we going to score 70 goals this season to get into champs league places? We need someone like Dempsey who knows how to score consistently.

I really do hope we're planning on getting him with a cheeky last minute bid.

I think Dempsey probably will end up with us by the end of the window.

The longer we wait with him picking up his wage and not playing at Fulham, the cheaper we'll get him for.  You can't keep an unhappy player as we ourselves have found out in recent years.  There doesn't appear to be a long queue of clubs after him either.

I predict he'll sign before the end of the window, hopefully it'll be closer to 5 mil than 10.

i tend to agree, if any potential transfer to us was completely dead in the water i think he`d be making concillitary noises to fulham by now.

I'm sure there are other players who are more technically sound and younger such as Martin Harnik and Osvaldo from Roma, though the latter is a hothead.
Harnik is very similar to Michu in his style of play so he could potentially be a good signing. Plus wasn't last season the first time Dempsey scored that many goals a season? Perhaps a late bloomer but not exactly consistent. Besides, we already have Assaidi who is as good as Suarez.

Assaidi as good as Suarez ?!? Don't be stupid

How many times have you seen him play ?

And Dempsey has scored well two seasons in a row but he is on his way to Sunderland

Assaidi can make a similar impact as Suarez. I would have preferred Luciano Narsingh but oh well.

And what's your source for Dempsey to Sunderland?

I have seen him twice - Suarez is a world class player - to say he is as good as Suarez is stupid without him even kicking a ball for us or in the top leagues. If he was or is as good as Suarez then he would certainly not be getting sold for a couple million.

And the metro and various twitter accounts have the Dempsey to Sunderland story.

The squad is starting to look bloated again. Spearing, Adam, Henderson, Downing, Cole and Carroll are all dispensable as far as I’m concerned. I think at least 2 of those players should leave before we bring anyone else in.

It's the same as people judging players using Football Manager.

Sunderland are looking at Dempsey - its up to you if you want to believe it or not and it has f*ck all to do with any twitter rumours.

just because a team hasnt put in an official bid for a player doesnt mean they arent trying to sign him.
plenty of work and discussions go on behind the scene`s before clubs put their cards on the table with an official bid. they dont just bid for a player out of the blue.
