What if he scores 21 goals like he did last year for Fulham

he`s just another paul stewart or leonardsson, they scored goals for mid table sides too, once they came here the weight of the shirt was too much for them.
with him being 29 / 30  as well it`s just so obvious that he`s coming here because the owners want a recruitment drive states side.
as i said talk is cheap brendan lad.

Not my point my point is you said Brendan would go down in your estimation if he signed Clint Dempsey so i was pointing out if Dempsey had a great season like he did last year would you stick to that opinion

yes i would, if dempsey signs for us no matter how he performs rodgers imo is a yes man. i understand there has to be some realpolitik at football clubs and i understand our owners want to grow our `brand` in the states and signing a yank is the easiest way to do it but rodgers needs to understand that the likes of bill shankly backed up his words. telling the world he`s not a yes man in his first press conference and then one of his first signings is a yank?
i actually feel embaressed for the fella.

I was on here yesterday querying Brendan Rodgers comments yesterday at the press conference yesterday with regard to whether Carroll had a future at Liverpool given that he had failed to reassure anyone that Carroll was part of his plans. If yesterday's events raised a question mark over Carroll's future his comments today about letting him go out on loan surely confirm what I suspected yesterday.

It's apparent now that if Borini does come in and with Suarez likely to miss at least the first game at West Brom because of the Olympics that Brendan Rodgers intends to play 4-5-1 or something similar in order to have Borini as his main striker that day. Carroll is clearly not part of Brendan Rodgers plans the surprise is why he won't come out and say so. This idea of a 'loan' away to help Carroll improve is just a fudge to increase his price so that the club don't lose too much on the £35 million they paid for him.

It's as much of a fudge as when Roy Hodgson decided two years ago to loan out Aquilani on the basis that he would return to the club the following year. Roy wasn't in charge when Aquilani returned in July 2011 and though Brendan almost certainly will be next summer a loan move for Carroll would clearly not be to accomodate him into the team.

Carroll is not going to improve as a Liverpool player by spending a year away somewhere else that won't help him. Either he gets a run in the team this season with a better functioning midfield and wide players to create more chances for him or he gets moved on this summer. The halfway house of a 'loan move' to help him in a year's time is just a cover for helping to bump up his fee for a permenant sale next summer.

I suspect that the owners have been partly responsible for forcing this on the manager even in the face of Carroll's decent displays at Euro 2012 for the national side. The new manager clearly doesn't want his team to be associated with the failures of Kenny's time in charge he made it apparent what he thought of the style of play a few weeks ago. Once Carroll does go out on loan between now and the end of the window (as clearly nobody is going to match the owners asking price this summer) who will be next Henderson perhaps?

If Carroll is to be sold ok it's just a pity that the new manager can't be up front about it and say that's he's not part of his plans and that a loan move will be with a view to a permanent transfer.

your probably right, it seems odd that he is talking about loaning carroll out before he has even seen him train but yet on the other hand the welcome mat is rolled out for joe cole.
it wouldnt surprise me if there was pressure from above on rodgers and we are seeing with the links to dempsey that he`s looking like a bit of a yes man.
looks like the owners got the exact man they were looking for.

he did interviews with the written press after that press conference, to the written press he said something along the lines of `i`ve got to be honest here there`s a possibility that he could go out on loan` or words to that effect.
it`s on the bbc website.

Oh come on Benny forget yesterday it's been overtaken by what he said today. He said today he won't rule it out if it helps Carroll and he can come back a better player?

I'm a bit disappointed to be honest we shouldn't be a feeder loan club for the likes of AC MIlan to help them out in the short term. Brendan isn't coming over very well to me right now Borini is unproven in the premiership he was on loan at Swansea in the championship you don't tinker around with strikers at Liverpool when we need continuity and improvement in order to have a chance of getting back into the top four.

Brendan Rodgers is making quite an inauspicious start to pre-season I can see problems on the horizon if I'm honest. Does he understand that top premiership clubs aren't in the business of short term loan deals. It might work if you're trying to get into the premiership with Swansea but loaning out Carroll for a year isn't a plan for success as far as I can see particularly if all you've got to offer is Borini as the replacement.

No he didn't ! The article on the website are quotes from the press conference patched together to make it look like he said he was willing to send Carroll on loan

It's the same with the Borini article - all quotes patched together.

Rodgers actually said it is at time beneficial for players to go on loan - he was speaking in generics.

over the last 20 years at this club we`ve had good, sometimes even great players but they`ve either lacked bottle from the outset (mcmanaman) or had the fight drained out of them by successive league campaigns (gerrard).
out of the current crop of players we have 2 in the whole squad who look like they are prepared to fight against the odds, we have got just 2 players that wont throw the towel in mentally.
they are luis suarez and andy carroll, and now rodgers wants to send one of them out on loan?
f**king joke.

Even if that is true I'll be amazed if Carroll starts the season at Liverpool. I think he's played his last game for the club.

on the back of the echo rodgers is telling carroll to up his game!
but he rolls out the welcome mat for his mate joe cole? and he wants some more of his mates at the club like borini?
andy carroll is one of the few players at the club with a bit of heart and f**king rodgers picks him out and tells him to up his game?
at the same time rodgers is fawning all over jamie carragher and steven gerrard!
this fella is starting to look way out of his depth

We should never loan Carroll out. If he's not part of our plans then he should only be sold, for a minimum of the sum that we payed Newcastle for him. Also, if we're willing to let him go, he should be replaced by a more proven striker, not by a 21 year old kid like Borini. I'm not against signing Borini since he's a player that the manager know well, but only as a back-up striker, not as our main and only striker.
