Better be good after Rodgers has given it the massive build up and more to the point they
get the deal done  :)

I really hope it lives up to the billing and we could do with a boost, signing that gets us
all buzzing and itching for the new season to start.

Most of the deals done in recent times havent really set the pulse racing so hopefully
this time there will be geniune excitement.

I think that without trying to be a "misery" people need to get a check on their expectations or who this player is that we'll love.

Just cause BR says the fans will love this player doesn't mean he's going to be a big superstar name. It could quite easily be someone who we've never heard of before but BR has seen something in him that he knows will get us fans excited.

Unfortunately I fear that with the mentality of some of our fans these days we'll be seeing negative comments flying about if it's not Messi, RvP or Alonso (for arguments sake).

Personally I hope it'll be something along the lines of Suarez maybe. Someone that we knew was decent, fairly well known but who is now undoubtedly the darling of the Kop and a world superstar.

No way will it be Alonso.

Sounds like Granero all the way.  We need a central midfielder with a bit of class, he doesnt fill be with excitment to be honest, would rather see a Tiote type player alongside Lucas in midfield.

You may well be right.  Personally out of everyone linked i'd love to see Johnson.  One of the few who actually run and get players on the back foot and give you purpose going forward.

We will see Madrid sell us one of their crucial players to us and we will see Alonso leave the biggest club in the world who are currently in the CL to come to us.

Oh in other news Santa Claus has been announced as the new prime minister.

The prob is mate some actually believe it will happen then when it doesn't come screaming on to here ranting and raving when their own lofty unrealistic expectations arent met.

I honestly dont think many THINK he will be coming back.

But they can hope.

It's nice to dream sometimes.

oh this ---------->

Off the bbc website now

Liverpool close to signing Roma forward Fabio Borini
By Ben Smith
BBC Sport Comments (118)
Roma forward Fabio Borini is expected to become Brendan Rodgers' first signing as Liverpool manager.

The 21-year-old Italy international worked with Rodgers at the Chelsea academy and on loan at Swansea.

Talks between the parties are ongoing and although the deal has yet to be agreed, the potential fee is likely to be in the region of £8m.

On Monday Rodgers had stated that he was close to making an "exciting" signing.

"We hope to complete a deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club," he said.

“We don't have a wheelbarrow load of money, there is not the money flying about people think there is”

Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool manager

"He will be terrific, I'm sure. And the supporters will absolutely love him.

"Going forward hopefully we can bring maybe two or three more and then with the group of players that I already have it'll bode really well for us and provide us hopefully with that strength in the group to challenge in every competition."

Rodgers has admired Borini since the Italian scored scored six goals in just nine Championship appearances while with Swansea towards the end of the 2010-11 season.

The former Parma forward has one international cap and was part of the Italy squad that finished runners-up at Euro 2012.

One player who chose not to move to Anfield was new Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

But Rodgers admitted that it was his reluctance to up Liverpool's financial package to match a more lucrative deal being offered by Spurs that meant the player moved elsewhere.

"We didn't lose out because of not wanting to spend the money [on wages]," he added.

"We lost out because the manager wasn't prepared to move on it. There's no doubt there'll be other targets and other people that we need to look to bring in.

"But we won't lose out on wages. If we feel there's a player out there in the market whose value and worth can add value to what we're doing here then we'll do everything we can to bring them in."

However, Rodgers did admit he does not possess endless transfer funds.

"We don't have a wheelbarrow load of money, there is not the money flying about people think there is," he added. "There certainly won't be as many signings as is being labelled out there.

"We want to work with the great players we have here and make three or four tweaks in relation to the squad that can help the group. We want to be competitive in every game and challenging at the top end."

That report is very misleading - they have pieced together things he said in the press conference along with things he said to Ben Smith afterwards

Sounds promising. Do you think we will get anyone in to replace Downing or is he going to be our 1st choice on the left?
