I actually think England will beat Italy now.

I cant see them winning the competition though using them tactics but I thought the same of Chelsea in the CL this year.

on the down side though, milner is just a donkey, wellbeck can't hold the ball up to save his life, and rooney looks and plays like a 35 year old version of himself after a night on the *****.

i don't really fancy our chances against the italians, unless hodgson goes with a very attacking line up. walcott on for milner from the start and carroll on for wellbeck.

Andy i agree about Lescott he has been very steady and not let anyone down.

Totally disagree about Parker though, i think he is a real weak link and one of the reasons our midfield gets overrun.
He puts himself about but is far too slow and sloppy in posession.

The only thing is there is a distinct lack of options in that position so he will have to play really.

Gerrard has carried the midfield for me.

regardless of what happens on sunday, i think Roy has done a good job. I can't remember the last time England won their group in the finals of an international tournament and, what's more, he's done it without our so called 'best' players....Italy will be a tough challenge, but i think we can do it and then it could be a semi final against Germany.... :oh:

what an awful game, the czechs obviously thought their best chance of getting to the semi`s was to try and take it to penalties.
glad portugal got through, couldnt be @rsed watching those czechs again.
the tournament has been good so far but i think the quarters could be a bit dull, i expect the greeks to adopt the same tactics as the czechs tomorrow against the germans and italy v england will be a cagey game as well.

I thought some of Meireles passes were sublime, interestingly enough he never got a mention from Lineker and Co ,and yet he could have easily had 5 assists.

Say what you like about Ronaldo being a horrible cnt - he is.

But he is a top top player.

That header last night, the movement and the way he attacked it was brilliant.
A likely Portugal Spain semi could be interesting.

Italy star Daniele De Rossi says England captain Steve Gerrard is his 'idol' as the two sides prepare to go head-to-head in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals.

De Rossi revealed he dreamt of playing more like Gerrard, who has shone for the Three Lions during Euro 2012.

Roma vice-captain De Rossi started the tournament in a three-man defence for Italy but reverted to his favoured midfield position in Monday's decisive Group C win over Republic of Ireland.
The 28-year-old admitted he preferred an anchor role and revealed he would attempt to model his game on that of Gerrard.

He said: "Steven Gerrard has always been my idol. Since 10 years ago, he is among the best in the world.

"You see Gerrard defending and attacking here and there. I would like to be able to play more like that."

De Rossi, who admitted he had yet to see England at Euro 2012, also described Gerrard as their "symbol".

Compact

He added: "They have other very good players playing on the flanks and it's a really compact team.

"They have a manager who has been managing in Italy as well, so they know how to play defensively and in attack."

The Italian insists he does not view the Azzurri as favourites for Sunday's quarter-final, adding: "England is one of the five or six best teams in history.

"I don't think we are favourites. English football has surpassed Italian in recent years."

De Rossi believes Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli, who scored his first goal of the tournament against Republic of Ireland in Italy's final group game, could be a threat against England.

"Mario can potentially harm England," he said. "He is 22 years old, he is old enough and he must take his responsibility, regardless of how he is treated."

I thought Meireles was really good too mate, definitely one of the best players on the pitch in the first half, he drifted a bit in the second half though (fatigue?). As Ben said, Ronaldo was top class, his movement off the ball was excellent and his technique once again was sublime, there was one part when Meireles put in a delightful ball to Ronaldo, and when Ronaldo received it he flicked over the defender, shot it and hit the bar.

I don't see Greece winning against the Germans tonight, I heard Germany are going to rest Podolski and Muller

German absolutely dominated Greece and were unlucky to concede 2 goals.

credit to the Greeks for holding on, but I thought Germany were top draw

Ozil for me was top class and was the standout performer for Germany, Khedira comes close second
