The amount of stick Terry got for that internationally was amazing.

england top the group and avoid spain, italy will start the quarter final as favourites but england are a tough side to beat, could go to pens that game.

I can see us winning comfortably, 3-0. But for christ sake, we need to drop Milner, he offers nothing !

I think England and France will both qualify on 7 points, I suppose France will finish top and will meet Italy while England will get Spain.

Spain nor Italy have impressed me in this tournament, Spain have done what's needed to be done and Italy have qualified due to Ireland being extremely poor. Croatia is the team I feel sorry, they deserved to qualify, but what you deserve and what you get are often two very different things.

Spain weren't particularly impressive tonight, Croatia have shown teams how to play against Spain, however while the media and many fans are painting the current Spain team out to be the greatest team to ever play International football - I don't share that view and while I don't share that view, they will be difficult to beat, but they aren't unbeatable and had Croatia taken their chances they'd have won the match, because I felt they had the better chances tonight.

If England do beat Ukraine and do finish runners up in Group D, then I hope they'll relish the clash with Spain, rather than cower in fear. The worst thing England can do is start building Spain up and up like they did with the French. Never acknowledge your opponents strengths, never adjust your tactical approach to the opponents strengths. Focus on your strengths and your weaknesses, maximise your strengths and nullify your weaknesses. England have actually impressed me so far, I never gave England a cat in hells chance against the French, but they showed grit, determination and a fighting spirit, not usually seen with England. Again these qualities were on display against Sweden as England turned possible defeat into victory.

While England haven't been playing possession football (surprise, surprise), they have done well, they've done the basics well for the most part, apart from their attacking display in the first match and their defensive display in their second match. Hopefully they'll keep a clean sheet tomorrow and score a few goals. If Carroll starts I hope the lad scores a hattrick and puts himself in contention for the Golden Boot award (if they still do it?) England need the result tomorrow, so the pressure is on, but after that I hope they are able to play without expectation, play without pressure and just enjoy the tournament. Nobody is expecting England to advance past the QF's, least of all me. But if they approach the Spain match with a 'nothing to lose and everything to gain' mentality, there is no reason why England cannot upset the apple cart and dump the reigning Champions out of the competition.

I would love nothing more than to see England win Euro 2012, not because I'm a fan of the England team, but because I would love nothing more than to see Roy Hodgson lifting one of European footballs finest trophies. I like Hodgson, he's a decent fella, capable of good and bad like everyone else, but the abuse he suffered as Liverpool manager and the abuse he has suffered as England man has been unwarranted and I would love to see him make the editor of the scum newspaper who mocked his speech impediment eat a huge slice of humble pie in the process.

Go on Roy!

Just noticed this, couldn't agree more. But I want England to do well for another reason, the Liverpool influence. Which has already been proven in our captain. He has once again proved how influential he can be at international level when he is the main man.

As for Roy, yes, I agree. He is a gent. Simple as that. People like Benny will detest how well England are doing because he was one of the petty minded ones who jumped on the "Woy out" bandwagon, just look at the gash he has posted so far in this thread. I hope we win it, and I hope Gerrard is there at the end to lift it. That would simply be brilliant.

Gerrard was excellent.

Rooney's overall contribution was poor - he is well overweighted.

I agree, useless, I just do not understand why he is first choice on the right, I would be surprised if he got more than half a dozen games for city next season and most of them will be as sub

Agree on both fronts, Gerrard was class and his crossing in this tournament have been outstanding.
That's 3 assists now.

Rooney was poor, his touch wasnt great and he does look like he is carrying too much weight.

What's all this about Carroll and Rooney being bessy mates as well  :oh:

england still lack so much but are at least proving pretty resilient at the back. gerrard is doing very well and really reigning in his natural game, but two players that have really impressed me, surprising myself in the process, are lescott and parker. lescott looks like a really good, calm and athletic centre back and has helped out terry no end. parker just seems like a great presence to have on the pitch... he's strong in the tackle, gets forward well, and is always talking to his team mates. in many ways, dare i say it, he might even be a better captain for this particular england team than gerrard.

on the down side though, milner is just a donkey, wellbeck can't hold the ball up to save his life, and rooney looks and plays like a 35 year old version of himself after a night on the *****.

i don't really fancy our chances against the italians, unless hodgson goes with a very attacking line up. walcott on for milner from the start and carroll on for wellbeck.

Overall, Gerrard has been phenomenal on this Euro cup. I really hope he can bring this form back to Liverpool.

I agree but I would be amazed if he plays a full part in August and September

If it wasn't for his contribution England would have been on the plane home with just 1 point to their name.

I get the impression that Gerrard will only have to get better and better if England have a chance of getting into the semi-final and beyond and I am not sure at 32, if he can still carry a team on his back. Young, Milner and Welbeck need to drastically improve, none of these players look like they belong on the International stage at the moment and Rooney looks very unfit and will clearly take another match to really get into the swing of things, unless he too is going to be as useless as he was in the World Cup 2006 and World Cup 2010.

England's performance against Ukraine was enough to see them through, but they'll need to perform 10x better against Italy or they're going home. The England defence against France looked solid, but against Sweden and Ukraine it has looked unconvincing and another England player who needs to up his game is Joe Hart.

He's looked unconvincing in all three matches so far. All in all England must improve, get the basics right and onwards and upwards.
