infact i got a bit of a shock when i saw agger is as short as 6/4 to go to barcelona, i thought he`d be about 10-1 or something, dont like the sound of that. i hope this new appointment hasnt underwhelmed a few of our players too.

See that's the part I don't understand we have seen Liverpool win every conceivable trophy available in our time ,and yet some of us (more longer in the tooth)
fans shall we say ,are showing a distinct lack of patience and faith in the club .... and that mate bothers me ,I mean I can understand the posters who have
only ever seen us win the Champions League or the FA cup ,but fans who have witnessed our greatest halcyon days should really know better .

It will take faith and the unity of the fans to push this team back where we belong ,but nowhere not once (albeit the incredibly naive )has anyone stated this
will be a rapid transformation ,this club needs the time to grow again mate ,and more than anything needs the fans united in backing our resurgence .

Correct me if I'm wrong please anyone, we are Liverpool Football Club, still one of the biggest names in world football. Of late, have we lowered our standards? Why are we turning to mid table and relegation battling managers to fill our vacant managerial position?  Haven't we learned anything from the Hodgson appointment? Do we want the Hodgson nightmare which I thought was a one off craze to be repeated all over again?

Yes, I know FSG wanted AVB and he's playing hard to get. Since Van Gaal, the only high profile guy who is interested in the job, why don't we appoint him? I know appointing a young manager is good in theory, yes in theory only. But have you noticed young managers who shine early usually cannot last long? We do not need to look too far away, look at Kenny who was our player manager at 34 and won the league in his first season. At that time I thought, "WOW, we have a baby manager in Kenny and Liverpool should continue with this glory for at least another 20 years". And look what happened, he abruptly resigned just after his 40th birthday. Look at Guardiola, young manager but quit Barcelona too soon. So young managerd may not look be a good idea. It's the slow and steady ones like Fergie who can last long. So appointing V.Gaal to me is the best option for now.

Lads, if we're honest, FSG laid out their philosophy years ago, find a young, ambitious but inexperienced manager and give him free reign to create a style from bringing in unequally unproven, or older proven but under valued players and creating a balance of youth + experience with sufficient creativity to overcome more stylish and expensive squads of proven quality players. Woy screwed up so badly the owners hesitated to implement their plan first time and appointed Kenny. Having shown that was mistaken, as was to give him 110 million to spend, they now revert to style.

To me, it always was a race between Rodgers and Martinez. Talk of AVB, Maureen, the German fella or de Boer for example have just been a smokescreen to allow the owners to meet higher profile managers and hear their gameplans to calibrate their own ideas and to appease the fans. I don't think there ever was any intention to appoint a man who would want to bring his own team of coaches and assistants and demand a hefty kitty.

Our new manager will slip in alone with a small suitcase. He'll get a small budget that will allow him to bring in 3 26-27 year olds and will be told to get on with the job and map out more fully what he needs either for the January window or next July. He inherits a reasonable squad but its vital we get rid of 10 players before we start bringing new faces in. The manager needs to assess what he has first.

I know, I know.... terribly frustrating.... we'll be thankful for an FA or Milk cup run next season and to get to the 1/4'ers in the UEFA cup, but once again we have to go into limbo whilst we assess what we need. In the meantime, the new stadium will be announced because we avoided appointing a high profile manager and we'll all go happy-clappy again.

The future is red. If thats ok by City, Ure, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal.

Appointing top managers is not a guarantee of success. The PL is not a kind place and can be the graveyard of internationally acclaimed men. Scolari comes to mind but there are probably others who have been chewed up and spat out?
I am not overjoyed with Martinez or Rodgers but if we dont accept whoever is chosen then we face another civil war which can only be detrimental to our chances of progressing

Putting to one side what we fans think, the SPONSERS won't take much more of the Coronation Street antics until they vote with their feet. Twit and Tw@t's last year was painful, Woy's era was plain embarrassing and Kenny's reign endured the Evra farce and inconsistent results. Why pump 20 million a year in to enjoy that? Why invest 100 million in stadium name sponsering rights? We have to see this from every angle and this really is our last chance before we lose top flight status.

I suppose one could look at Di Matteo and what he done with Chelsea in the latter part of last season, although we shouldn't forget that they have a good squad with 2 top class strikers. The question is will we be able to attract players of similar calibre without CL football. Hopefully that is where Van Gaal comes in.

I take your point Reginald but if the supporters dont get their act together the sponsors wont have any customers to buy their products.
We really have to pull together and I think the enormity of the situation cannot be underestimated

There were reports this morning that Van Gaal is all over, not sure from which side.
