I don't give a Sh*t if we don't win anything for the next few years, as long as we're laying the foundations for a sustained return to the top level, with stability at ownership, board and manager level - that is what we should be aspiring to. I think the owners know that. Of course the next manager is unlikely to for 15 years (I hope he is though, because it will mean he's successful), and of course I'm not saying he should have a contract for that long, but what is ludicrous is to appoint someone whose going to be here for 2-3 years and then retire. I'm sure you know who last managed us for a 15 year stint?
shankly wouldnt have been in a job for 15 years with these whoppers we have supporting us now mate.
i`m not interested in 5 years plans and laying the foundations and all that orwellian management double speak, i`ve heard it all before, houllier was a master of it. look at our last grand plan, comoli`s appointment as a DoF was supposed to take player recruitment in this country out of the stone age and into the stats age but that `radical new philosophy that will change the face of english football` didnt even last a year.
every club says the same things about putting in place structures and all that malarky, half the time its like listening to tony blair go on about the nhs, you find fans even using blair-ite inspired terms these days, half of them are just sounbytes that sound good but mean f**k all.
if capello can take us forward then i`d have him, if he retires in 4 or 5 years then so be it, the way we are going through managers in the last 2 years 5 years in the managers chair is an eternity.
