What an incentive for the new manager: 4th or youre gone
So much for "stability" and "progress"

Did we progress under Kenny in the league? How?

I find it strange that Brendan Rodgers was even on the list. it seems we have already spoken to him or his club brfore asking about Roberto Martinez.

From the 8 mentioned in order

Pep Guardiola
Jurgen Klopp
Fran De Boer
AVB
Didier Deschamps
Fabio Cappello
Roberto Martinez
Brendan Rodgers

hmm a few strange ones on there lol

Well thats the 8 mentioned apparantly Brendan Rodgers will be next to be spoken to as Liverpool have asked Swansea to speak to him.

The amount of titles and trophies between them and we will probably end up with Brendan Rodgers

If we wanted an unknown yet potentially up and coming manager with no previous experience with a big club, and no real experience in the top half of the table, or in Europe, then Martinez and Rodgers will be candidates worth looking at. To employ either though would feel like a final toss of the dice, a last gamble to claw our way back into the business end of the Premier League. If it fails, we sink further and spend another season out of the top quarter of the table. At that point the entire mentaliity of the club will have changed. We will be cementing our position as a mid-table team and will likely fade further into obscurity. We will have slowly but surely seeped away to "just another number". Ever walked and looked back over your shoulder, amazed at just how far you've come? Well we've been doing that in reverse and all this talk of Martinez and Rodgers, f*cking Wigan and Swansea merely proves how far back we've moved. If, however, one of these guys comes in and against the odds manages to bring in a few quality players (players who would have no real sense of who they are working for), and to genuinely intimidate the likes of Fergie into worrying that Liverpool just might be back in business, whilst steadily climbing the table back into the top four, well...GREAT!

Ain't gonna happen though, is it? These next couple of weeks and the ensuing league campaign I honestly feel will make or break us. The times they are a-changin' and I for one am brickin' it.

I can see this going the same way as it did when Rafa left. Like Rafa whoever replaces Kenny is going to be the target once more of all the spoilt brats who didn't get who they wanted. Instant results or they are condemned, and then the waiting for the new manager to f*ck up before they pounce.

Its going to happen.

There is one serious plus side to appointing Rodgers or Martinez....expectations and pressure would suddenly drop massively. There could be something in that.

Taking into consideration what happened last season I think 8th wasnt as bad as people are making out
Of course we wanted to finish higher and even reach 4th but it wasnt to be. Thats not reason enough to sack KK. It was just an excuse
What KK should have done was got us from 12th to 10th instead of 6th in his first season, then up to 8th this one. Then it would have been progress...

Indeed.  :) Read my post prior to the one you quoted. I'm afraid that yes, i'm very cynical right now. It's a good substitue for frustration.

you know, for Martinez this could just be the chance he needs to become a top manager. We're not Wigan so theres no chance we'll be scrapping for survival. It might be risky but it could just work in our favour. Imagine if he has a good first season in charge and then goes on to improve us season after season. He is young. We could actually be looking at a long term manager here that could if backed by FSG properly, turn out to be very successful.

I agree it is frustrating. I was gutted when I heard Kenny had been sacked. We played some great football, the only thing that let us down was poor form from most of the new players and pure bad luck. I have never known a season like the one we have just had. Kenny stabilised the club, got us playing good football again, and got us to two cup finals. So yeah, its frustrating.

But we have to move on. And whoever comes in be it Martinez who I wouldn't mind, or Rafa who I would mind, we have to support (I include the board with this) the new man otherwise we are going to be in this situation every other season and going nowhere quick.

yeah seen that too...

Richard Buxton ‏@Richard_Buxton_

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly turned down an approach from #LFC to succeed Kenny Dalglish #SCFC

A good thin IMO. He's had one season in the premier league. Yes he plays attractive football and has done really well this year, but that's one season in the top flight and no european experience, no cup final experience. He was at chelsea for a bit, but only as a reserve team coach. Think he'll be a really good manager, but this is too big a club, too early in his managerial career.

it worries me that martinez is odds on favourite still

the guy has done nothing better than ok so far in his managerial career

his finishes in the prem with wigan are 17th, 16th, 15th

and  wont be able to attract anyone decent!!

capello or AVB or jurgen klinsmann  please, all could attract better players
