whatever you think about benitez' last season here, he's the manager that put us at the top of the european rankings, got us to 2 CL finals, won the CL, won the FA cup and got us to within a whisker of our first league title in 20 years. he was by no means perfect but i can't think of anyone else that would instill a sense of confidence immediately in the club. and that is what we need right now.

Korrect.   But a section of the fans and media would be gunning for him from the off. Its rather like  Woy taking the England job, half the fan base are willing to sacrifice the euro championships just to see the guy sacked again.

Nonsense. Kenny brought in those players. He is responsible for them being here and stinking the place out.

Not one of the British signings excited me (the Carroll one as ive metioned actually depressed me on the day). These weren't hotly anticipated signings.

Whilst i have stated that Kenny being sacked was harsh and premature as i would have given him util Christmas and then assess things, i can however understand the owners standpoint in that they have given him 110 million and seen it squandered... so how then could they seriously trust him to spend wisely with another massive outlay. I certainly wouldnt. I stated that i would like to hear Kenny's plans before giving my complete backing to him.. and that is what the owners summoned him to Boston for... and clearly they didnt like what they heard.

I think so, FSG didn't like what they heard. Thumbs up from me. Most probably Kenny told them he wanted to continue with all those garbage Henderson, Adam, Carroll, Downing that he signed and tried to convince them they are the Messi s of tomorrow.

Rafa like many managers got a lot of things wrong. Having got to Istanbul by showing some massive determination he picks a team with several question marks. Kewell was a surprise selection and his enforced substitution due to injury certainly helped Rafa get what was looking like a very unlikely result.Leaving out Didi was also bewildering.Rafa got very lucky in Istanbul. Sometime you need a bit of luck and Kenny didn't have a lot of that.

Rafa's man management skills in respect of Alonso left a lot to be desired. And just how many times did he take players off when they had scored two goals when they looked like they had a chance of a hat-trick. Gerrard has gone on record as saying that Rafa never said "well done" to him. Aquilani was a disastrous waste of a lot of money. And most importantly to me just how much of his footballing style was downright fkg boring? Even when we were top of the league at Christmas nobody in there right mind could say the football had been enjoyable. His match day poker face also got a tad tedious.

Having said all that I liked Rafa as a bloke and still do. Torres was a fantastic financial success for Liverpool. Alonso was also another fantastic financial success but a major loss. Success in the CL and decent PL finishes now seem like a distant memory. Rafa also had to work under two of the biggest unscrupulous clowns that have ever graced English football.

There is quite a big part of me that would like him back and another side of me that looks at what happened at Inter and just how many clubs have shown any interest in Rafa since Inter sacked him and that causes me a lot of concern.

I also admit that by the end of Rafa's tenure I advocated that it was time for a change and an awful lot of that was born out of understandable frustration. Hodgson was not the right man for the job and never given any financial or supporter support. Kenny was given the job to steady the ship and get the fans back on side and he succeeded but unfortunately that simply was not enough.

A lot of people's biggest gripe was 'rotation'.  Ha! thats minor compared to our decline since the day he left.

We really are back at square one aren't we?

Dunno if I can agree with that Reg.  I wanted Rafa out as early as December of 08 for many reasons.  My top reason being that he had lost the plot as far as simply managing a football team, he got way too involved with the fight against the owners, and his man management was absolutely horrible.

That all however is a few years down the road and I believe Rafa would be the best choice right now.  The man has a passion for the club and after both the club and Rafa having the bad times behind them, I think it would work.  IMO it would work if he could do his job and just mange the team.  I would welcome him back wholeheartedly, clean slate.

I still believe the club and Rafa made the correct decision to part ways two years ago.  However.  Different climate now.

There is one reason I think bringing Rafa back is the right call, and that is to ease the tension.  Liverpool fans at the moment seem to be frothing at the mouth to get ready for another go at foriegn owners.

I am of the belief that ownership should  absolutely NEVER listen to their supporters when it comes to difficult decisions regarding their club.  Fans first reaction is to go with their hearts.  Right now, we need the leadership of this club to use their heads very wisely.

IMO Rafa coming back would be a bit of both.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I think it is hypocritically funny as f*ck that the same ***** that spends months and months demanding Rafa is sacked are now claiming we should bring him back !!!

That is the perfect Chelsea attitude that has crept into our fan base

I don't consider myself as being hypocritical.  For me, the time back then, Rafa had run his course.  Now I think the time is right.  Pretty simple.

Rafa wont be back i wanted it. But it wont happen. THe owners wont go down the re hiring a former again. They wont listen to the fans either. Who ever they pick will be their choice. I have heard rumours they are considering Martinez I really dont want him i think he is too in experienced for us. Saying that if he got the job ill be behind 100% and support the club like i always have and will. I just have a feeling the appointment of Martinez will only end badly.
