Gary Cahill will be leaving this January because his contract's up in the summer.  To be honest I could see Bolton holding onto him if they don't get a good enough offer to help them stay up at this point, but they have probably had the hardest schedule in the perm so far.

I could see us chasing him or Samba possibly.  Could also see us going after maybe an Negredo, G. Rossi, Lavezzi or Cavani type player.  And if Stevie continues to have issue I could even see us chasing a Hamsik or Vargas type player... But I don't expect much to happen either.  Just saying I wouldn't be surprised :D

Liverpool set to secure Chris Samba signing

LIVERPOOL are leading the hunt for Blackburn’s defensive colossus Chris Samba.

The ambitious Rovers star has switched agents after failing to secure a move away from Ewood Park last summer.

And Liverpool have been alerted to the fact he remains keen on leaving the struggling Ewood Park club. Arsenal showed keen interest in Samba last January, when the Congo international was rewarded with an improved five-year contract by Blackburn.

The Gunners and local rivals Tottenham were both chasing Samba during the summer but neither tabled official bids for the player.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has since signed German international defender Per Mertesacker, meaning that his interest in Samba has cooled.

Spurs are still on the look-out for a new centre-back but Liverpool are said to be in pole position for Samba.

Despite signing young Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates in the summer, the Anfield club are still on the look-out for a new centre-back especially as this may be Jamie Carragher’s final season as a regular first-teamer.

It is believed Samba, 27, has become increasingly frustrated with life at Ewood Park and is eager to move to a bigger club while he is still in his prime.

That has sparked his move to new representatives and could see him switch clubs in January.

Blackburn owners Venky’s are under no pressure to sell players but they could be tempted by an offer of around £10million for their prize asset.

------

Didn't realise Samba was 27. A year older than Cahill. Always thought he was younger.

Samba is ok, decent positional awareness but at 27 he isn't a long term solution. We need more creativity and balance in midfield and probably another striker.

Don't think we need another defender. Our defense looks solid at the moment and according to the stats one of the best in the prem. with only 11 goals conceded (which is the least a team has I think) counting the one conceded against Chelsea today.

I would take Chris Samba. Proven EPL performer in a less than ordinary team. At 27 years old he has many decent years in front of him.

Liverpool can have Eden Hazard for £43million

Weren't we linked with Mario Gotze? IMO the guy is almost as good as Hazard but I don't know how much he would cost.

Still, I don't think we should be buying, not until the summer.

Liverpool are being linked with a January move for German international starlet Lars Bender.

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is earning rave reviews in the Bundesliga, and once again impressed on the Champions League stage in his side's 2-1 win over Chelsea last night.

His performances have alerted a number of club's across Europe, and reports in Germany now claim Liverpool have taken a keen interest in the 22-year-old, whose twin brother Sven plays for Borussia Dortmund.

Damien Comolli, director of football at Liverpool, is reported to have made a couple of personal scouting trips to check on the player at the BayArena, reporting back to manager Kenny Dalglish with a glowing reference.

Speculation suggests the Reds would need to spend in the region of £12 million to lure the player to Anfield, although Robin Dutt will be eager to keep one of his star players at last season's runners-up.

Bender's arrival could also spell the permanent end for Alberto Aquilani and Joe Cole on Merseyside, with both players currently plying their trade away from Liverpool on loan.

Franco Zavaglia, Aquilani's agent, suggests that a permanent move to AC Milan is almost a formality for the player, whilst Lille have expressed an interest in taking Cole permanently off the hands of Liverpool after a fine start in Ligue 1.

Samba? Yes, I'd take him. He'd give us a goal threat we've lacked post-Hyypia. I am concerned though with how he makes noises about wanting to move, and then signs an improved contract - maybe he is just a greedy sod?

Aside from that, I think we could do with someone who can play wide right - neither Kuyt nor Henderson are really doing the job there. Someone quick, creative and who brings a goal threat. Aside from that, we've enough new players trying to gel, I would wait till summer before bringing in anyone new up front or in the middle - the players we've bought should be given time - I think we've got enough up front to score goals, and we are OK in the middle of the park. Real shame we didn't hold onto Meireles though...

15 million? I wish, but not likely! Worth close to double that IMO. He would be just what we need and Sao Paulo have confirmed we're interested..Inter and City too I think?
