Lets be realistic about this.. We'll need to rest some of our key players sooner or later and I see no reason why we should yet again be putting out our strongest side in a  league cup game when the league should obviously be our top priority. We dont have as much depth as many seem to think we do. Down the middle and upfront our options are pretty much limited.

We have some players who will probably be playing every minute of every league game unless injured or suspended.. The likes of:

Enrique
Lucas
Downing
Suarez

Benching them all would be a recipe for disaster but surely this game is a good chance for benching at least 2 of them. For me, I'd have Lucas and Suarez on the bench for this one and give Carroll and Henderson one more chance to prove their worth playing their natural positions.

                                Reina

               Flanno  Carra  Coates   Enrique

                      Spearing  Henderson

               Maxi         Bellamy       Downing

                               Carroll

Bench: Suarez, Kuyt, Gerrard, Lucas, Shelvey, Wilson, Doni

you would have to fancy a win regardless of the side we put out.
as scs pointed out brighton are playing well under poyet and more importantly playing good stuff.
we have a habit of dropping down a gear against so called weaker opposition and the pressure will be on us to perform after the :censored: game so it will be a test for the lads.
i also expect to see stevie back and will be worried that somethings up if he does'nt feature at some stage.
2.0 to us.

Call me superstitious if you like but every time I expect the reds to win, they would lose and vice versa. The Spurs game I had expected us to repeat Man City's performance against them but it went the other way. So against Brighton, I won't expect nor surprised if they get beat 3 in a row.

get a strong side in there and trump Brighton 5-0 to get more confidence going

10-0 still would not erase the memory from the weekend but seeing Gerrard play & play well would soothe some of the pain.

Risky either way really.

I'd favour starting him and give him an hour.

If he plays off the bench and we aren't winning he runs the risk of being committed to extra time.

that'll do nicely. Both players got the chance to prove they're up for the challenge. Coates could be one to watch with a close eye as he may be required to step up sooner than later.

That's why superstition is a load of bollox my friend. It is assuming that what you do or think is controlling the outcome of Liverpool's performance.
