Bottom line is if they thought he was worth the improved contract they would see it through but clearly they dont think thats the case. Meireles could do with a new agent given this fella accepted a verbal agreement with owners who had the football club up for sale. These things happen and by the looks Meireles and Liverpool would sooner move on than sort something out.

Unless we got at least what we paid for him or more I can't see it as a good move to get rid of him. Plus he scored some important goals for us last season.

If the club has promised him the money we should honour it.

No Purslow and the previous regime promised him, not the new ones

He isn't worth what we paid for him....And no one outside of England would be willing to pay an amount which is bigger. I guess i'm the only one (again) which thinks that the fans are exggarating by far our true players abilities ,Be it Raul or Skertel and of course Lucas.

If we get Adam we should thank Kenny and have no remorse on letting Meireles go.

would be disapointed to see merieles shown the door.overall he has been decent enough and has shown his ability to win games which can't be said for a lot of our squad.
really surprised that he will be 1st out the door.

we'll easily get back what we paid for him. In fact, i'd be surprised if we didn't get 15 million at the very least....but the point is he's a good player.

Sell the dross first and then worry about where you play your good players.

If this is similar to the saga when we tried to get Barry & ended up losing Alonso & got an injured Aquaboy it could be a disaster

....but if it's for the greater good so be it. Just please don't sign an injured player again!!   :Oo:

The club promised him. Purslow was just an agent working on behalf of the club.

Absolutely.

Would be very disappointed to sell Raul - been superb for us (not every game, i know)  and I think he'll just get better in the Premier league.  Has a very solid, sometimes exceptional season, already under his belt and we move him on?   Doesn't really make sense to me.  However, I do trust Kenny.  Wish we were bringing in Mata though.  Sounds like Arsenal are trying for him now.  Sorry, going off point ... :p

I agree with the sentiment of selling the dross first but Meireles is no stand out player imo, he won player of the season or whatever but the whole team was garbage, that award this season simply had to go somewhere and it ended up at his feet. He was never one of the first names on the teamsheet either and was often shipped out wide because there were better centre midfielders in the side than him (or more of them, make of that what you will).

He seems a very likable fella but if he isn't in Kenny's plans there'll be no grudges held on my end or asking what could have been if he was never sold. I never advocated selling Alonso or the way he was treated either and, as similar as they may be being treated, Alonso is in a completely different class to Raul.

I still have my doubts over him after his first season such as his fitness and general ability if I'm being honest BUT he's been decent enough (and I mean decent) and has probably earned the right to have a second season...that's the only factor that has me thinking, whether he can build on what he's accomplished so far. If he was to repeat the same as this season, personally I don't think that's enough...I'm not saying he's been a failure by any means, what I am saying is that I don't think he'd be particularly missed, just our treatment towards him is a little poor if he genuinely does want to stay.

If he does have personal reasons for wanting to go such as his family struggling to settle or even himself then fair dos. He's a quiet lad so it wouldn't surprise me if he has had a few problems and just got on with his job. Fair play to him for getting on with it either way.

It's Kenny's call and I'll roll with that

Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing

I rate him a lot.

I understand the reasoning for the need to move him on, but it would leave a bitter taste in my mouth; simly because we are selling a player who is showing definate signs of being absolutley kin'boss!

Also I dont think CA is a better prospect. I really dont.

I think Meireles is a very good player but im not sure were his best position is.  I always thought he did better playing off the striker in the Gerrard role.

But in CM, he often went missing, lacked the bottle to go in for 50/50s and didnt really have a fantastic range of passing.

I think Adam's range of passing would make him more suitable in CM.  Still think we should keep Raul though.
