i just dont get it, Meireles has shown that he has what it take to be a liverpool player. i am not saying yet that Kenny is making a big mostake in selling him, but i hope he has a very good reson why he is selling him.

If kenny is planning on signing Adam then his midfield is getting quite crowded...Lucas ,Spearing ,Gerrard ,Henderson. It makes sense he unloads some of the existing and try in the same time turning a profit.

and one more cheap speculation...If Aqua is expected to return (which i doubt he is) then you have another similair player to Raul and frankly more talented. (although he is made of sticks).

I think the fact that he would fetch a decent amount of money may be the reason as well.
I would think we should be looking at 15 million for him. That's alot more than what we are being offered for Aquilani.

Selling Meireles for anything short of 25 million euros is just insane when you look at the other prices being thrown around football europe.

I don't see a problem with it, Kenny has a certain vision for how he wants us to play and unfortunately Raul is a square peg trying to fit into a round hole.  Lets face it he was played out wide for a reason and it wasn't cause we we had too many CMs.  Had we had an actual squad with wide players Raul would have struggled to keep wee little Jay out of the team.  That should just about sum it up really.

I have a nasty thought that maybe Meireles is going because we simply can't offload the deadwood players & we need the extra funds + free up wages. I don't understand why you would sell a good player & buy uncertainty with an Adam or whoever.  If we were replacing Meireles with Alonso you would have no argument from me.

If you combine all the deadwood player wages its over 400,000 pounds a week (Something like 10 players). It's like a millionaires camping trip every week for these guys, they don't play, they are under no pressure & they get paid.

would wait till all the Transfer window opens up before resigning to the fact we can't get rid of our deadwood.....

Aren't his high wage demands (which were promised to him when we brought him here) the reason we're trying to sell him? That, combined with having a lot of midfielders in our squad is the main reason we're getting rid of him. Plus we could get good money from him, 2 or 3 mill more than the sum we bought him for. Don't get me wrong, I'd love him to stay, but I can see the logic in why we're trying to get rid of him.

I feel the same way, but I also read the same thing.

I think when Meireles signed he was told his wages would increase after the first season, after we got new owners and stabilized etc.  Now the new owners may not want to keep that promise considering they didn't make it, but if Meireles is saying that he wants to be paid to the increase, then we may stick him on the transfer list to get him to either back down, or to sell him to get rid of his wages.

This makes me assume we have signed Charlie Adam.

I think it was somewhere at the end of the season. It was mentioned that the deal with Raul was that he'll get a higher salary after his first season (or if he performed well, I can't remember) but the owners disagreed on that because as we know, they're not too keen on players that are on very high wages, with exceptions ofcourse. I'll try to find the article.
