so let me get this right....we're going to sell our best player from last season and replace him with the player that has been labelled as one of the worst signings in our history?

REALLY hope this isn't true...Aqua should be sold ASAP and Raul kept.

I think the club had banked on selling Aquilani and budgeted for his sale but seeing as there is no buyer Meireles is taking the fall as there is interest in him for decent money. If someone coughs up for Aqua Ive a feeling Meireles will stay at Liverpool but the Italian will be on a good screw at Anfield and no ones daft enough to match that money for him.

I have thought for a while now we`d sell him. Lucas has a new deal, we have brought in Henderson and are going for Adam.SG is a nailed on starter and we also have Spearing. Meireles as an established international will want to be playing most of the time and thats just not going to happen.
If we bring Adam in probably on less wages then it makes sence to me.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Only reason we are selling him is cause he is the only player with a value matching his wages.

We obvioulsy as usual never have as much money as everyone thinks(same every window) and as Jovanovic, Cole, Poulsen, Ngog are on huge wages and are :censored: no one will touch them.

Our own fault for trying to go the cheap way with cheap ones with reputation.

How about this, we dont sell Meireles.. We keep Aquilani since no one will buy him for decent money... And we dont sign Adam...

Selling one of the best players simply to replace him with a player we dont need isnt smart business in my book... Holds especially true when we've got plenty of good options in the position we're trying to address..

YOU think Meireles is better than Adam, again its about opinions, but others think that Adam would offer more than Meireles and Aquilani.

It could go two ways really, however, I'm staying optimistic as I trust what Kenny Dalglish is doing

I think you will get more out of Adam personally.
Consistensy is what i mean. Like i have said previously i also think he would work harder and battle more. You need that in certain games.
He chips in with a similar amount of goals but would get more assists.
Vitally he has very good crossing ability, with Carroll you can never have enough good players who can provide service to the big man.

Agreed Ben, I think Adam will compliment other players like Carroll more than Meireles.

I think Adam is the better option.  Adam is almost like Alonso when it comes to long passes... He doesn't hoof the ball to Carroll, he'll play a beauty to Suarez.  His set pieces will compliment Carroll's attacking style very well, and he can score goals.  Meireles is a good player and when you watch him, he's obviously a really great person too, and I don't want him to go, but I do think Adam is better for us the Meireles.

I don't think Adam's touch and precision is nearly as good as Alonso's. To me he's more like Danny than Alonso...

Who Danny Murphy?

I wouldn't say he's like either, I would say he was more a Gary McAllisterf type midfielder.

We also have to take into consideration that Adam played for Blackpool, a team who was relegated, and Meireles played for Liverpool.

It's much harder for Adam to achieve what he did on a team like Blackpool.

Was watching LFC tv earlier today, Meireles was number 5 in  Ian Rush's Top 10 players for season just gone. He mentioned (as have some members in here) that despite being often played out of position, for a debut season in the prem the fella had done very well, especially with his performances since Xmas ( which included some important goals) .

Frankly for me it's a bit of a head scratcher that Kenny (if true) wants too ship him out after just one season. Only reason I could think of that makes any sense (as mentioned by Rushie) may be about Meireles' fitness levels, when starting he seemed to fade a lot in the last quarter of a game and was often subbed.
