Raul Meireles - Rent Boy Mark II

The Premiership - General Discussion

Do younot think we will play Gerrard behind Torres and then keep the midfield as it has been:-

Kuyt      Lucas     Mereiles    Maxi
               Gerrard
                      Torres
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Raul is beginning to quite quickly show why he is rated so highly. At long last our midfield is beginning to create stuff and he is a key reason. Long may it last. Sure takes the pressure off Stevie G.

has to be said, he has played a stinker tonight, guilty for blackpool goal, poor shot, lack of imagination going forward, lost count of how many passes went astray

was shocking against the Mancs as well
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

to be fair, he wasn't the worst player on the pitch.

We've got no shape, and Raul doesn't seem to have a role either. He's a good player, but our lack of ideas restricts him.

He was poor yesterday, has been for the past 3 games. Very light weight and easily dispossessed when he has the ball

i dont think he is that bad, yes he has had a few bad games but in all he has been one player that the passing stats say he is doing ok. and as passing is such a big problem with the team right now it might be an idea that some look at how he passes the ball.....well a lot of the time, unlike some players he looks before making the pass.

hi pace is up and down and i am sure he is not 100% right now. but with others out of the team and no bench worth talking about he not doing to bad.

and lets face it its been down to him to try and make up for when Torres miss passes the ball or gets pushed off the ball, so he is in the action more that a lot of players right now, that in fact makes his stats even better.

that said he needs to lift his game a bit...but not as much as others.

No he isnt.

He is a good player without doubt but clearly struggling.
He might be getting tired, he isnt used to as many games as we play and the game is played at a far higher tempo than he would be used to as well.

Meireles is a clever little football player who has a good footballing brain. He is a CM and not a RM hence looking lost when playing out there. He is a good player who will excell with good players arounfd him (like Gerrard) and not at RM with Poulson playing in the middle.

I posted a few days ago that I am concerned about Meireles tackling as he has looked weak in the tackle and IMO contributed to the sending off of Gerrard after he sh*t out of the tackle with Rafael.

People forget he is still getting used to the EPL as well. I think Meireles alongside Mascha and Alonso would have been awesome.

So...in summary...good players with good players around him who needs to learn how to put the boot in.

If he can prove me wrong I will be more than happy but on what I have seen so far he has not impressed me at all. We need proper players not lads flouncing around the park looking to tap the ball about. Meireles cant hack centre mid here because he isnt robust enough and so all hes got left is good passing and goals and hes not shown either of those qualities either. At this point I am searching for what he can offer the team. Its all well and good saying wait until we get better players about him, every footballer could argue that, but we need this lad to do the job now and thats what we brought him here for. It gives me no pleasure for me to see another £10.5m flushed down the bog but no one would pay us that money back today on the open market after his performances this season.

I do think he is a very good player, very useful too. I was discussing it with a gooner friend of mine and he was telling me that how cr@p he is and that denilson is twice the player (made me laugh when he said that). He just lacks a bit of fitness (just like Riera did when he first joind us) to keep up with type of games that requires you to run alot and pass the ball at high speed. His work rate is fantastic, but you can see him getting tired at the end. He just needs a bit of self confidence, and I think Kenny will talk to him and try lift his spirits up.

Yeh he isn't brave enough to commit to tackles, much like Aquilani, but I think he will come good
