play Merieles when Gerrard in the middle. Or, move Gerrard to the right and play someone else aside him. He's too good to leave out or push wide.

I think we all know what we would want to happen - but it if the manager follows suit - he hasnt done so far . Gerrard isnt going to be pushed wide - he will be in the middle .

a few years ago west ham (ok many years ago) had the same problem, what they did was to play a 4-3-1-2.
in our case it would mean having Meriele playing right behind Gerrard who is free to run.
West Ham made it work Mark Ward was the player and Liam Brady was the other.

That puts a lot of pressure on who provides us with width ?

He really has bossed the past couple of games along with his his midfield partner. His passing has been slick and seldom wasteful (cue someone with a stat proving otherwise  ), and on top of that he's shown he can create - whether it be a delivery from a set-piece, a through-ball, or a timely pass into feet - and be a goal threat in the final third with both feet, which is pretty rare. Looks a very astute buy at £11m.

Eh, I'm not as convinced as others are about him.  I think he is doing well but he still hasn't done enough for me in the final third.  Still a good buy, don't get me wrong but he's failed to impress me with his final ball.

Yeah, I'll go with this.. still needs time but I think people are giving him too much credit. Lucas has been better than him this season imo.

They do different jobs, Lucas just has that stigma of being sh!t so when he actually plays well people usually undervalue his performance.  Kinda like Johnson, they both get heavily criticized when they play badly but when they do well it goes unnoticed at times.  They have to have massive games nowadays to be noticed.  Personally I thought Lucas was better against Tottenham, too.

Lucas is a below average player who occassionally plays ok. Lucas has been at Liverpool long enough to prove what he can & more importantly can not do.

One thing I like and at the same time hate about him is that his decision making in the last third. He sometimes just played one pass too many as he should just shoot the ball. His shot is quite accurate and with power as he always get into a good position to shoot. But he is kind of one dimension at the moment as he doesn't offer nearly as much defensively as I would have liked. And yes, his responsibility is different but I wish he can contribute a little bit more on our own end. I guess I would always compare our midfield to someone named Alonso :D . I think now we all know how special Alonso was. But there aren't that many out there.

It took Alonso 4 seasons to produce the goods on a constant basis, before that he was more hit than miss hence why Rafa was thinking about bringing in Gareth Barry. And then it gave him the kick up the :censored: he needed to produce the goods on a regular basis.

his reading of the game and positional awareness are second to none. thought he was probably our best player at the weekend.

his shot towards the end would have been a breathtaking goal if it was an inch closer.

Always looking to be available to take a pass and very mobile. Growing in stature withy every game he plays. Very good buy for £10.5M.
