Raul Meireles - Rent Boy Mark II

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby TarnRed » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:47 am

How much did we create last season from the middle Rocky?.

Did you watch any of last season with the Lucas - Masch partnership constantly used in the 2 midfield roles, creativity was zero, nada, ziltch - Gerrard having to drop deep and leave a mssive gap between striker and midfield there was no link, wide players having to come into the middle making it way too congested and when the ball went wide there was nobody there to pick up the ball. You can have world class strikers in abundance but without service you aren't going to create goals or even opportunities.

We haven't signed a striker we have to deal with it but what Meireles will bring is the ability to switch attack into defence in a split second something that Lucas nor Mascherano could do and that is why we suffered last season.

Check some of the stats from games against the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Stoke, Wolves etc away from home and chances created were minimal, with the signing of Meireles this will improve.

i also believe that mereiles will be an important link that we've been missing for some time. the reason we've been doing ok (relatively) is because torres is a freak who can create his own scoring chances, negating to a degree the effects of our generally terrible midfield link-up play. we've seen that when presented chances ngog can stick them in as can kuyt - their problem is making the chances or being presented them by a midfield which is miles away from them. meireles will (hopefully) provide that link which will enable even our second string strikers to get more chances.

Sure, but so let's clarify this question. We want a striker to compete with Torres, a striker to be reserve of Torres, or a striker to play side-by-side with Torres? I don´t know what we are looking for, really... ???

for when not if nando gets injured again. How the hell can you go a full season in the most physical league in the world with one main striker and a fecking y.t.s trainee as backup.

Hi there Reds!

Im a FC Porto fan and a great Meireles fan.

You've made a fantastic sign! A fantastic player very cheap! Unfortunately for us...
I've read many post of this topic, and many of you think that Raul is a natural substitute for Mascherano, but he's not.

He's not a 6 but more a 8. A box-to-box midfielder. Raul is not a strong player and he's not the tackling type of player. He never played very well at 6 in FCP, but he can manage...
Where he plays better is at 8 position. He could be very helpful to Gerrard as he can release him to step in more attacking zones.
Raul can transport the ball to attacker very well. Hes a good playmaker and he also finishes well and have a good mid shot.

I think his major weakness is fitness and physical power. But he has good pace, though.

At the end you have a fantastic player, a great man and we'll miss him at FCP.

The best luck of the world to him at you home! ;)

Regards!

Cheers mate we're all really hoping he turns out to be a good player. To be honest, we really NEED him to be a good player right now.

So what do you think BM? Aren't you gonna say that he's not suitable for the premier league? Because what our Porto friend described was just like describing aquiline... Doesn't tackle... Not that strong... Etc etc... :D
