If he has more than 7 assists and scores more than 2 goals he will have done better than Aquilani
Fingers crossed

Oh dont get me wrong i am in no way saying he is going to destroy all comers and become the best midfielder we have ever had.

What I am saying is that his style of play, his skill and attitude should let his migration to the EPL be a lot easier than a lot of foreign signings in that position :)

And if we do see his skills, and they are applied properly and in a system that works with him, he cannot be anything other than a good signing.

First, to say I'm extremely happy with this signing, he was one of the players I always said that would be perfect for the English Premiership, and even better at Liverpool. I know him well, been folowing his matches for a couple of years, and as someone said once he is a "little big" player.

"Little" not in height, but in his profile. He's not a Ronaldo or a Messi, he plays simple and efficient football, and that's what a player in his position should do. By the way, many people are asking the same question. What's his position?
In a simple answer, he plays ahead of the Defensive Midfielder and behind the Attacking Midfielder. He is a Central Midfielder, may I say one of the few box-to-box midfielders in activity.
-He equilibrates the team, guarantees the transition from defence to attack, helps defending, helps attacking, good passing, great work rate, great long range shots.

He's not a Mascherano, be advised. Mascherano is a beast that steals balls from the opposition and that's it, he is a limited midfielder.
Raul is a midfielder who can also act in the support of the defensive line, as a ball winning midfielder(not as good as Mascherano) but the difference is that after that, he can go upfront with the ball he has just won, and make a killer pass or a long range shot. With him, Liverpool can go from a defensive stance to a quick counter-attack in a matter of seconds. I think we never saw that with Mascherano.
Another thing. If Roy gives him that liberty of movement, we will see plenty of times Raul next to Fernando Torres in attack. I'm not kidding. He's been famous for appearing in the finishing zone plenty of times, and scoring some goals. :bowdown

Take a look on his attributes, FM2010.

Good post Meireles. It's certainly unusual for a new signing to be so universally admired by posters - lets hope he lives up to the expectations, he'll need to.

From what you say he's much more a replacement for Aquilani than for Masch, presumably Roys plan is to play him alongside Poulsen in a 4-2-3-1 or even Gerrard if we do, indeed, play a 4-4-2.

Yes, that's it. The replacement for Masch is Poulsen, the replacement for Aquilani/Xabi Alonso is Meireles.

Very Good post mate, I was taking your knowledge of the man very seriously, right up until you said.

???  .

Hopefully football manager rating aside he'll still be as good as you suggest.

Ahahahaha  :D .
Don't be afraid. All I said was based on me watching him play, not on playing FM. :D
But, well, I think that could give us a idea of what type of player he is. :;):

SPot on post, but I had him down as a replacement for Lucas in all honesty, I think it will be Poulsen, Meirkat, Stevie, Cole, Kuyt / jova

It looks like we're in competition w/spurs to sign diarra from rMadrid - he would probably start ahead of Poulsen imo.  Could be quite a different looking midfield from last season.
