I only saw the second half and it did seem weird seeing Poulsen and Cole against United's very young side.

I was concerned with how comfortable they all looked on the ball and more like a 'team' than we did.
Probably in fairness they play together a lot more.

To be honest I thought Cole was terrible, but didn't really get much service and had to come deep to get the ball.
We had no options up front at all in the second half, surprised the coach couldn't see that as it stood out a mile.
The commentator said Cole player better in the first half but I missed that.

Shelvey was easily the best player and the lad Wisden (is that how it's spelt) looks to have a better future than Wilson.

Suso just kept giving the ball away and waving his arms in frustration, he didn't stand out at all and needs to improve if he is going to follow Flanagan and Robinson.
If you misplace a pass, which he did several times, just get your head down and win the ball back lad - don't stand there waving at everyone.

Others such as Irwin and Saric who are both out of contract soon don't look anything like good enough.
Overall I was very dissapointed to be honest.

I have to say if the club get offers for Cole and Poulsen we should let them go.

Not sure whether you watched the whole second half mate but Suso at least twice won the ball back in our half, Davie Fairclough commented on it.
He didnt look great though and did give the ball away too much but i think thats more due to tiredness, its nearing the end of the season and he has played alot of games on sh!te heavy pitches most of the times.
I have every confidence in him having seen him throughout the full season.

I know Fairclough commented that Suso started the season well but has been lacklustre recently.

Some good news off the offal.....

Frank McParland has today saluted the crop of talent emerging from the club's Academy.

Six players from Liverpool's youth base have been named alongside Jonjo Shelvey in England U19s latest squad - following hot on the heels of the quartet that were originally involved with the U17s at the European Championships.

It is further evidence of the depth of quality now being nurtured in Kirkby - and the Academy director feels the news caps a very productive campaign for his staff and players.

"We've had four players called up for England U17s and we've just had news about the six that have been called up for the U19s," McParland told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Add that to the two lads who have been involved with the first-team for the past four or five games and it's all very positive.

"Okay our U18s didn't win the league and it was disappointing for us. But I think the coaches realise that getting the players into the first-team set-up is the most important thing and we've made some great progress.

"It's testament to the hard work everyone is doing here."

King Kenny is looking to ‘Valleys Boy’ to manage Liverpool’s future stars

IF KING Kenny is to put faith in Liverpool’s prospering youth setup next season, he will need the backing of the club’s newly assigned Academy manager Steven Cooper.

The former Abercynon footballer has been coaching alongside Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool’s training grounds for three years.

During off-season backroom changes at Anfield this week, 31-year-old Cooper, born and bred in Hopkinstown, Pontypridd, has been put in charge of the Reds’ stars of tomorrow.

In the same seven days, former Under-18s coach Rodolfo Borrell was upgraded to reserve team head coach.

Meanwhile, Cooper was slotted in as Under-16 coach and Academy manager, roles he knows too well require the upmost respect and responsibility.

Now living in Wrexham, a 40-mile commute to Liverpool’s Academy grounds on Merseyside, Cooper said: “When you are at a club like Liverpool, you cannot forget the principles it has been built on; the history and morals which have made the club what it is.

“We have to work to them but at the same time embrace new methods of modern day football.

“The good thing about having Kenny in charge is that he spent 18 months training with the Academy before becoming first team manager.

“He is aware of the work that is going on here and to have him at the helm is very positive.

“It does put pressure on you to produce good young players but that is the main objective, to provide players good enough for the boss to put them in the first team.

“You are always held accountable.”

Having played for various clubs in the Rhondda Leagues, Cooper was offered a contract with Wrexham when he was 16 and has lived there ever since.

After four years playing, he then moved into coaching at The Racecourse Ground where he worked his way up the ladder to become the club’s head of youth.

He led Wrexham to victory in the Youth Alliance at Under-18 level before he was offered a job with Liverpool in October 2008.

Since then he has thrived as a coach.

It is a career he believes he is more suited to. He is much better directing from the dugout than performing on the pitch.

He said: “I have strong memories of my childhood growing up in Hopkinstown and playing in the Rhondda Football League.

“I have set up base in Wrexham and now have my own family in North Wales, but I always class myself as a Valleys boy, and a proud Welshman.

“That’s me and that will never change.

“When you work with any young players, they have to come first.

“My goal is to make sure they are OK and they are happy to be at the Academy and are put under no pressure. On the business side of things, we are putting a good program in place to improve these players for when they are older.

“I want to continue the good work that has for a long time been at the club.

“We don’t go wanting for anything in our facilities and that gives us less excuse not to do a good job.

“It’s important for a youth department to have good recruitment,” he added.

“If you don’t bring in the right level of quality in the first place, you won’t get the quality out of the team.

We have recruitment worldwide that covers everything in Great Britain, including Wales. We are aware of the talent in the country.

“All the kids are looked after well. They play in nice kit and on nice pitches.

“But the demand put on them is set by the club and its history.”

Does a lad called (if i can remember his name) Tony Silva or sterling still play for the reserves via the academy.

I dont really follow the academy a lot, but was watching the LFC channel and he looked good enough to break into the first team.

Do you guys remember Astrit Ajdarevic? He has been awesome for the swedish team IFK Norrköping that plays in the swedish highest division "The best teams would probably be in the middle of the championship quality wise". Probably their youngest player but also their best. Don't remember him being close to this good when he played in our youth team.
