I agree with neil, this new lot seem a lot more down to Earth. I was watching the footage when Harry and Will were at the front and Kate was walking up towards them. Harry was clearly saying things and winding Will up. It was nice to see them being relaxed about the whole thing

I watched ABC's Q&A the other night and it brought up the monarchism/republican debate. Personally it doesn't bother me, I'm not Australian but I think it would be nice to see Australia stay as part of the commonwealth - from a personal view point but other than that it's of little concern to me.

How about you, what's your feeling or opinion on the matter would you vote to become a republic or not?

I saw (can't remember her name) on the Q&Q show an Indigenous Academic and she seemed quite pro monarch. The host couldn't understand why that was as it was her empire that led to the de-culturalisation and atrocities of Indigenous people. She stated that the Queen always showed an interest in Aboriginal ritual where people (monarchists) like John Howard never. She said that the Queen understood this ritual as her nation has many rituals where as the white Australian's sniggered at the Aboriginal dancing on one of the Queen's earlier visits.

My view is if isnt broken why fix it when so many other importants concerns facing the country.

Personally while I abhor the idea of monarchy class system, for me its more about maintaining our times with country which brought us our values and traditions and which share we close links with

Besides as Americans show you replace a King and you get some President who ends getting putting on god like pedastal.

For a purely stingy point of view the British citizen pays for our head of state while we maintain the much cheaper Governer general so its all good

Well I thought it was a great day and just the lift that Britain needed! With all the doom and gloom around it gave us something to celebrate and be happy about. It was a real boost.
I loved the pageantry. It's something only us Brits appear to do and it was done extremely well.

They are a lovely couple who seem thoroughly genuine, and of course besotted with one another. But as tubby said it was a shame that Diana wasn't there, but her legacy was in the form of William.

Regarding who paid for it all: I would think it was worth it for the joy it gave us and the tourism it attracted. The govt spends millions on other ill-advised ventures.
Also, and I may be mistaken, but isn't the Queen rich in her own right. She's certainly the first monarch to pay taxes voluntarilly.

(I'm not particularly a royalist - don't like the way they continue to hunt and inflict cruelty on animals...)

But it was a good day......

Congratulations William and Catherine, I wish you both every happiness.

Regarding the point about who pays for it, surely the money generated for the country, ie, visitors, memorabilia, increase in exports for British goods etc far outweighs the costs.
