"The transfer fee is probably less than 50% of the overall cost of a player to a club. As a young player who is not a fully established "star", there is every chance Carroll's wage demands (he's currently on £27k per week) would be considerably lower than an established star who might on the face of it justify £35m. You can't just say £35m is a stupid fee without knowing what the wages would be. £35m at £50k per week (hypothetically, but it would still pretty much double what he's on at the moment) is probably actually very good business."

Excellent point, also considering that Chelsea's spending on Torres is going to top £80m including wages.

Of course we have to assume that his transfer fee won't inspire him and his agent to demand ridiculous wages.

Chris Murphy: Carroll could be about to see his wages go from £30k a week to £80k. according to ESPN.

why dont we have it? how do you base your logic?

OK well maybe we have it, but if we don't sell Torres, it's 50 mil we weren't going to spend.

By the way, I've been a Liverpool supporter since I first warmed up to "soccer" back in 2002, but I've been a Red Sox fan since more or less birth, and I can say that Henry & Co have been very wise with their money since they took over the Sox. This includes dropping $50m on Daisuke Matsuzaka, who has been a decent player but a MASSIVE merchandising/financial boon. So, neil, I do retract my "money we don't have" statement!

ok friend  :)

Are you guys forgetting that NESV said we ahd about 35 million for January and even more in the following summer?  + 6 for Babel and supposed 50 from Torres, that means we had 90 million to spend in January.  We have spent 23 and 35, so 58, plus the supposed transfer of Adam would be 72.  We still have 18 to spend on Young, which just happens to be the exact amount that is said could make him go. :;):

Any news on Adam or Young? I read the article about Carrolls wages maybe being one of the reasons why we have offered so much and i suppose it makes sense in the long run so im not as bovered about the fee anymore, still worried about his injury though. Alot of people saying that were a cert to buy Adam and weve sent a car for him but from what most websites say it looks like we wont be allowed to sig him. Plus where the :censored: is Torres?
