Too much traffic, it makes sense to direct straight to that page as that is what people are clicking on for.

It's beardsley, barnes and Aldridge  all over again......crossed fingers. Net spend for today likely to be 17m, and with two extra players

Does anyone else have a sinking feeling that Abramovich has orchestrated this entire thing just to screw us over and will withdraw his bid for Torres at the last minute, leaving us having spent £50m we don't have? I have to think that the Carroll transfer is contingent upon us selling Torres...

here's a very good point from someone on the guardian transfer blog about the (apparently) ludicrous fee for carroll....

"The transfer fee is probably less than 50% of the overall cost of a player to a club. As a young player who is not a fully established "star", there is every chance Carroll's wage demands (he's currently on £27k per week) would be considerably lower than an established star who might on the face of it justify £35m. You can't just say £35m is a stupid fee without knowing what the wages would be. £35m at £50k per week (hypothetically, but it would still pretty much double what he's on at the moment) is probably actually very good business."

I feel that this whole Torres saga will have all the Liverpool players up for it big time now. Essentally because Torres has stuck 2 fingers up and on top of that his middle finger at Liverpool FC, King Kenny, the fans et al.

I wish LFC could have had a better season, but......

Anyway I reckon we will be above Cheaski come the end of the season.

1737: About 10m people went rushing to check the official Liverpool website after that announcement at 1726... and have crashed it completely by the looks of things. We await confirmation of the fee, but Liverpool say it is a club record.

Fair play to NESV.  They always said watch what we do not what we say.

Many folk have been whinging all the way through Jan about no acitivity, and questioning their commitment and intentions.

I think they have answered all questions.

Sure, £50m in helps, but to get Suarez, Carroll, Adam and maybe Young is one serious January window, and transforms our squad.

So Babel out, Konch out and Torres sold for £30m profit.

If all this pans out, and god knows there is time for it not to, it softens the blow of losing Torres.

it would be awful wouldn't it. imagine having to make do with torres, suarez and carroll. and with owners keen to invest in the club and everything.

The fee is daft but look at it this way. For so long we have watched other clubs splash out daft amounts for players, it really does make a nice change that we are one of those clubs for once !

More from Rio Ferdinand on Twitter: "David Villa cost £34m... an integral member of successful Spain team and played regular Champions League... UK market is crazy right now!"

  Does he not realise the hypocrisy? How much did he cost man utd?
