more on the story about oxlade-chamberlain from here. he's even better rated than walcott at the same age, apparently. i remember watching his dad, mark chamberlain, playing for stoke when i used to go there as a kid sometimes. he was quite good.

Liverpool have prepared a £10m bid for Southampton's highly rated teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they attempt to rebuild for the future and to back Kenny Dalglish's pledge of support for Fernando Torres with action.

The 17-year-old son of the former England international Mark Chamberlain has made only 14 starts for the League One club but is regarded by many at Southampton, and Liverpool's scouting department, as a better prospect than Theo Walcott was at the same age. Walcott's current club, Arsenal, are Liverpool's main rival for the signature of an attacking midfielder who has scored six goals this season, and the clubs hope to complete a deal in this transfer window.

Liverpool have not yet made an offer for Oxlade-Chamberlain, the second youngest player to feature for Southampton behind Walcott, but the club's new owners, Fenway Sports Group, are willing to meet the south coast club's £10m valuation. FSG, advised by Liverpool's director of football strategy Damien Comolli, want to invest in young and coveted talent, and the teenager's arrival would serve as a statement of the new owner's intent should he choose Anfield over the Emirates.

Anfield scouts view Oxlade-Chamberlain as one of the finest prospects in the country and, though he would likely be nurtured into the first team at Liverpool, the club are anxious to address the lack of support for Torres. The Spain international was substituted 13 minutes from the end of Dalglish's first game in charge at Manchester United on Sunday, with Liverpool in need of an equaliser in the FA Cup third-round tie. The club's record signing has struggled for fitness and consistent form for over a year and often appeared disillusioned during Roy Hodgson's ill-starred reign. Dalglish, however, is confident he can lead Torres out of his prolonged slump and has told the 26-year-old to look no further than his own career for evidence that even world-class strikers are not immune to a loss of form.

Adebayor was at Melwood yesterday having a look around....Spurs also interested but Man City will not allow a loan move to them because of the scrap for Champions league places.....loan move to Liverpool major stumbling block is the fact that Man City want Liverpool to pay the full £160,000 a week wages...liverpool will refuse to pay such a some.....watch this space for a compromise methinks

i'm not really into the idea of adebayor. he's a difficult bast'ard that has caused no end of trouble in all the teams he's played for.

I don't care where he goes as long as he isn't coming here. I've already stated my opinion about Adebayor once a few pages back and I stick by that.

Charlie Adam? Haven't really seen him play that much but his name doesn't exactly fill me with excitement.

We'll have to wait and see which - if any! - of the many rumours come true I guess.

yes we need this one.

He is a decent player but is he the kind of top class player we need to get us back to greatness??? No.

Suppose if he is on the cheap (i.e. £2M - £3M) then perhaps a short term fix but I would only see him as a stop gap and would prefer the likes of Pacheco to be introduced rather than spend money on a slightly better than average Charlie Adams...!

On Adebayor...

I see the point made about him being a :censored:

and a right awkward b@stard with his previous clubs but I would argue that both Arsenal and Man City lack real leadership in the side/squad and would think that Kenny + Carra + Gerrard + Reina would very quickly put him in his place.

That being said...for 160K a week he can fook awf. I would rather we got 'wee willy winky' or whatever he is called

Would take Adebayor all day.

He is by a mile better than anything we have besides Torres and would have an immediate impact.
Adam stands out in a poor side but for me looks slow and overweight. Technically decent player but i wouldnt be overly confident of him making the step up needed.
Having said that if you lose Poulsen and bring in Adam then that's a good move.

Wouldnt touch Adebayor with a barge pole depsite him being a top player on his day. Seems to me hes on his way down and thats two big clubs that have got shut of him in no time. Adams an interesting one, I agree hes carrying timber, looks like a non league player, but he can pass all day and has a great dig on him, set piece specialist. If they could trim him down and get him playing at Liverpool he might be a useful purchase.They have knocked back 3.5m but 5m would net him and we are in a good position as hes settled in the area.We will see.
