No embrace after the goal despite Torres claiming the assist, Gerrard in fact ran straight past him without any acknowledgement of the pass. Torres ran off in the opposite direction.

Seems they've either fallen out or have lost the love.

make that the 2 of us. i was rather surprised to see Torres just run off without a hint of a smile while Gerrard didnt seem to notice him at all.

make it 3 lads, I was suprised when he ran in that direction then RIGHT PAST Torres, especially when they used to appear extremely close on the pitch if they scored or set each other up. Guess thats more to worry about  :sniffle

Torres looks like he's not really putting it in to me too. The difficulty is, if you go dwon the route of selling him, and even if Purslow is true to his word that all proceeds go to the manager for new players, would the majority of fans trust the new manager to spend the 50 million quid or so wisely? Spend the 50 million on a Keane, an Aquilani, a Johnson and a Babel (I know it's a lot more than 50 million right there but you get my drift) and we'd be right up sh!te creek. On the other hand, find and Alonso and a new Torres, and we'd be in business.

It's a tricky one alright.

plus when a club makes a big sale you get a situation where every side you try to subsequently deal with is trying to extort you for an extra thick slice of the pie by sticking an extra few mil onto the figure of the player youre trying to sign, case in point being Aquilani, who I still refuse to believe we dished out £17m for solely on the basis that it makes me want to cry, although when anyone said Alonso was twice the player I guess there were correct in a financial sense :D

Against sunderland i saw a Torres that was fustrated, low on confidence, out of form, but i didn't see a Torres that wasn't trying. I thought he pressured and chased defenders well. Main problem is the amount of times he gets the ball to him, he's not going to dig himself out of a rut with no posession, poor play by us, and against a team like Sunderland, I felt truly depressed  :(

I doubt that there was anything much in what happened when Gerrard ran past Torres after scoring. Torres probably didn't feel like celebrating and couldn't be arsed to keep up with Gerrard wheeling away to celebrate. I also think it's still quite early in the season to be judging Torres. I'll be interested to see if he gets any chances next week against Blackpool and whether Meireles influence will help Torres in the next few weeks. It's a confidence thing with him right now but if there is more to it then he probably will go at the end of the season.

I noticed it straight away but thought it was just me looking to much into it.

I think torres will be gone in January unless we get good investment and Pepe Reina too.

Needs a couple of goals and a performance to put a smile back on his face - he is getting no service due to midfield sitting so deep and gerrard so far away from him .

Torres left his home team Atletico because they weren't in a position to contend for any major trophy ,as we are in a similair status and the way things are developing it will not change in the foreseen future it is quite obvious ,regretfully ,that Torres will leave on January. He is a player which takes pride in his loyalty ,but as he took a jump of faith by leaving Madrid he would surely do the same with us and our current condition.

PIQUE URGES TORRES TO LEAVE

Gerard Pique claims Fernando Torres will be embarrassed having to play in the Europa League for Liverpool and has urged him to leave the club.

The Barcelona defender, who won the World Cup with the Reds striker, believes he needs to be winning trophies rather than settling for second best.

The former Manchester United player says the 26-year-old will have to leave the Anfield giants and seek success elsewhere.

Pique told the Daily Star Sunday: "There is no way this can go on for Nando. It's just impossible.

"I spoke with him before he committed to Liverpool and he told me he wanted to win things with Liverpool - but if the club didn't invest and show real intent, he would be forced to leave.

"It's really embarrassing for Nando to play in a team of that quality.

"You would not see Messi or Rooney playing in the Europa League - so there is no reason why Nando should be playing there.

"Along with David Villa, he is the best striker in the world.

"He needs to be winning things domestically like he does with Spain."

Pique completed a domestic treble with Barcelona last year and was a World Cup winner with Spain in South Africa this summer.

The defender claims Liverpool are not capable of winning trophies at the current time and has urged the striker to come and join him at Barcelona next season.

"Liverpool have shown already this season they are not capable of winning things - and that's it for him now," said Pique.

"Liverpool are really testing Nando's loyalty. For the last two seasons they have promised him they will challenge.

"They haven't delivered on it at all. The ownership of the club looks completely unstable. It doesn't look like the manager or the players have any faith in the club.

"There can be no questions when Nando leaves in the summer. Players of less quality would have left last summer.

"But he is a decent guy and believed it when they told him they would invest. I am not just saying this because I want him to join Barcelona.

"The truth is I don't know if he will. It might be Chelsea, it might be Real Madrid, it might be Barcelona.

"But I know he wants to join a club where he can win league titles and European Cups. I would love us to sign Nando in the summer."

While annoying to hear an ex-Manc, he's calling it right IMO.
