Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i love Torres but the lad should focus on his fitness and try and give us one full season.  Had him and Gerrard been fit a little more last season, im convinved we could of got the extra 4 or 5 points and won the league.  And i think we would of made 4th this year if he'd been fit.

I do understand why he might be considering leaving though.  Lets face it, the best striker in the world has never won a trophy at club level!!!  And he is 26 now.  When Gerrard was 26 he'd won everything there was to win bar the PL.

I think he should give us another year and if we're still :censored:, i will understand why he wants to leave.

But the same applies for all players.  Half of them have admitted they've played shi.te this season so they should focus on their form instead of running away.

The thing is, before he came to this country he didn't have an injury record at all. It doesn't help over here when he gets no protection from referees whatsoever and ends up getting frustrated and kicked off the park. He then spends more time moaning at referees than concentrating on the game and it affects his performances. The Old Trafford game when Mascherano got sent off was a prime example of this.

Yeah thats very true.  The Refs seem to target him all the time.  I see him getting booked for very minor offences and defenders kick him.

benfica said they had a different approach at how to mark him.  That became apparent after 10 mins when they were kicking him but the refs really don't protect him enough and its a shame.

Our medical staff are also questionable this year.

Let him go if we get the right amount of cash for him (70m?). We won't be winning trophies anyway in the near future, we better concentrate building a young, hungry, loyal squad and going for the CL spot in the league. Winning the EL would be a bonus. That is the sad reality.

+1

Yeah it's depressing but it's true we are not going to win anything any time soon if we don't get new owners so if the right price comes then it should be used wisely to rebuild. Wouldn't sell him to any English team though, let him to to Barca and we can take 1 of their players.

I cannot see many fans standing for that because there are a small majority of fans who expect us to win the Premiership every single season and expect us to be winning trophies every season.

I agree with you, I would like us to introduce our youngsters to first team duties. Pacheco, Ayala, Ecclestone and Kelly all have impressed me in the little I have seen them play. I say give them their break and see if we can find one or two gems.

Let him go for 70 million? Are you off your rocker? Just because you let a player like Torres go for big bucks doesn't mean that in our state that all of that will be used to spend on other players, not to mention if other world class players would want to come in the first place considering that Chelsea and City are rampaging the transfer market and giving players ridiculous wages. Not only that, anyone who gets a name as big as Torres for 70 million will be getting him for buttons because how much do you think his name alone is worth to a club with the sales of merchandise?

Wenger has told Barcelona he wants 45 million for Cesc so surely 70 million for Torres is good money?

Torres is at least worth as much as Ronaldo... how many world class strikers are out there right now? I believe you can count on one hand... and he's still young at 26...

I would sell for 70 million without hesitation, if the money was to strengthen the team. Sadly, we will sell him for less, I am afraid. And the money will go to the wrong pockets.

£70m for Torres is GREAT business in my opinion. Great business provided the money goes towards the strengthening of the 1st team squad. As much as I love Fernando and what he has done I still have my doubts about fitness with him having played < 50% of our games over the past 2 seasons.

Maybe the time is right to cash in on Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano (after the WC when their stock will be high) and start a complete overhaul of the squad.

Whether Rafa is the right man to do it is another question altogether!!!!

Playing fantasy football now but if we got £125m for all 3 then you could buy all the (decent) targets we have been linked with and more -

Kjaer (£10m) to form a CB patnership with Agger under the watchful eye of Carra
Banega (£15m) as a replacement for Mascherano/Alonso
Ireland + Johnson (part of deal for whoever goes to City)
Joe Cole (Free transfer)
Danny Wilson (£2m) - one for the future

That will leave a HUGE kitty for additional signings. I would go after Cambiasso to come into CM and do a job overlooking the development of Banega. Still leaves the need for a striker but we could look to negotiate a striker as part of the Torres deal to Barca (Henry perhaps or one of the their many young superstars) and we would still have millions to play with.

Good business if you ask me.

I agree 70 million is a lot of money for someone who seems injury prone, that said i would still love him to stay, if we got a full season out of him you can guarentee at least 30 goals a season.

I think it's hilarious how some posters think Rafa will get any money from the sale of Torres to sign new players, I guarantee that nearly all of the Torres transfer fee (if he leaves, I doubt he will and I hope he won't) will go into decreasing the debt.

I think you are right. Selling Torres for 70 million then spending that money to buy 3-4 decent players could work but actuality would be it will be weakening the team to line their pockets. They may give Rafa 20 million of it tops.
