Anfield boss ready to use midfielder as bait to snare Italian international forward.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on using Italian misfit Alberto Aquilani to help fund a deal to bring Juventus forward Vincenzo Iaquinta to Anfield. With Rafa Benitez apparently ready to cut his losses with the former Roma man and noting the interest in the midfielder from Turin the Spaniard is hoping to come up with a swap deal that could suit the club’s need for more attacking options.

Injury prone Aquilani has had a nightmare season at Liverpool where after his summer arrival he spent the best part of three months battling to return to full fitness and then spent the majority of the season warming the bench only making eight Premier League starts all season.

The Merseyside outfit desperately needs additions to support Fernando Torres up front and whilst Standard Liege man Milan Jovanovi? is due to arrive in the near future the club could still do with another addition and one with top level experience.

With that in mind Benitez has set his sights on Juventus forward Vincenzo Iaquinta who is in his third season at the club after a successful seven year spell at Udinese. The Turin club is set for some major changes this summer and the 30 year old Italian international may find it hard to cement a place in the club’s starting eleven and may well jump at the chance of a move to Liverpool.

3O years old :(

not just an old striker... but one who is always injuried and then rarely plays when he is fit:

09/10 : 10 league starts
08/09 : 18 league starts
07/08 :  9 league starts

why? .... i mean why?..... have we learnt nothing from aquilani

Iaquinta is sht... wouldnt even want him as backup ffs ! What next ? Luca fcking Toni ?!

We should be going for Cassano.. guy is one of the best and most underrated players in the world imo... carrying his team to CL football on his own and been one of the best players in the Italian league every year he's played...

Other names to look at upfront are Di Natale and Miccoli... both around 30though so unless the price is right it might not be the best of ideas to spend big on them...  Zarate it is...

Not saying any of this is true just what I have been told.

Wow, fantastic rumour!!!  ..and you make it sound so credible. :bowdown

Chelsea and Manchester City offered Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
12 May 2010 - 12:35:11

Chelsea and Manchester City offered Barcelona striker Zlatan IbrahimovicChelsea and Manchester City are being offered the chance to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a deal that would create a new British transfer record.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is keen to offload the Sweden striker and has reportedly recruited agent and close friend Pini Zahavi to find a buyer willing to pay in excess of £40million.

Chelsea and City have been targeted as the likeliest takers in England and are about to be sounded out, following a clear signal both clubs are looking to strengthen up front. Chelsea are still concentrating their efforts on trying to prise £70m-rated Fernando Torres away from Liverpool and will wait to discover their prospects of landing the World Cup-bound Spain striker before considering the merits of Ibrahimovic.

City have the funds to meet Barcelona's asking price but will carefully weigh up whether the 28-year old's occasionally sullen demeanour and fitful flair meets their requirements. The £32.5m City paid Real Madrid for Robinho remains the record fee by a British club, but Barcelona will hold out for significantly more than that for a player they signed from Inter Milan for £40m plus Samuel Eto'o.
New Juventus president Andrea Agnelli wants to take Ibrahimovic back to Turin but is reluctant to pay more than £35m, prompting Laporta to try and guage interest levels elsewhere in Europe.

Ibrahimovic has come under fire for failing to provide a cutting edge when Barcelona needed it most, in their Champions' League semi-final return meeting with Inter at the Nou Camp. Traling 3-1 from the first leg, Ibrahimovic could make little impression on a well-drilled Inter defence, as a belated breakthrough from defender Gerard Pique proved too little too late.

Honorary president Johan Cruyff sprang to the defence of Barca's misfiring striker, who has scored 16 times this season, saying: 'Ibrahimovic has been instrumental in securing victories, even in the last few games. To say so lightly that this player does not work, that he is not worth it, is to have a short memory.' But Laporta has set his sights on David Villa and wants to free up space in his starting line-up, as well as generate the necessary funds, to press ahead with a move for the Valencia frontrunner, who has also been linked with Chelsea.

Why would they pay £70m for Fernando Torreswhen they can get this lad for 40?

Their current president hopes to have Villa signed and presented next week. If that happens then they won't be able to go for Torres too. If they don't though...

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun that could see Roman Pavlyuchenko move in the opposite direction.

Liverpool showed interest in Pavlyuchenko during the winter transfer window and are keen to do a deal, but they are reluctant to meet demands of Benayoun plus £2million for the Russia striker.

The Merseysiders could find better value in doing a straight cash deal for their Israel midfielder and would hope to raise as much as £10m by exploring interest from Aston Villa, Roma, Sevilla and Dynamo Moscow - as well as Spurs.

Meanwhile, Lokomotiv Moscow fear that their hopes of signing Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham Hotspur are dead. The Russians came close to clinching a £10m deal for Pavlyuchenko in the winter but believe his return to Harry Redknapp's starting line-up will scupper a renewed attempt to lure him when the transfer window opens.

'The situation has changed,' said Lokomotiv head coach Yuri Semin. 'I'm afraid it will be difficult to get Pavlyuchenko.

'His team qualified for the Champions League and he regained the coach's confidence. 'In any case, we can't get hung up on one player. We definitely need one more forward to strengthen the attack.'

Semin is under pressure after a poor start to the Russian Premier League season for his much-fancied team, who are 12 points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg after 10 games.

Lokomotiv also look set to be priced our of a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Marat Izmailov, who has attracted interest from Manchester City and Everton since a £5m return to Russia failed in March.

'Izmailov has a long-term contract with Sporting,' said Semin. 'His club will decide what will be. Figuratively speaking, the ball is in their court.

'We made a proposal for Izmailov in the spring, but the Portuguese refused. Since then, the situation hasn't changed.'

IMScouting sources understand that Liverpool and Espanyol have registered their interest in 21 year-old left-sided midfielder Caner Erkin.

The Turkish international has spent the season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray from his parent club CSKA Moscow. Erkin has performed well in Turkey, alerting both Liverpool and Spanish club Espanyol who have been monitoring him closely.

Erkin has spent three seasons at CSKA Moscow, but the quick and technically gifted midfielder was allowed to go to Galatasaray on loan with a view to a permanent move.  However, transfer negotiations between CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray appear to be stalling and so Liverpool and Espanyol are considering taking advantage of the Turkish side's hesitancy.

Erkin would provide a relatively inexpensive addition to Rafa Benitez's squad, as it is believed he would be available from CSKA Moscow for around 3-4 million Euros.

With Albert Rieira's Liverpool career all but over, there could well be room for a midfielder.

Meanwhile, Spanish side Espanyol sit comfortably in mid-table in La Liga.  However, they have a lack of left-sided attacking options and with Javi Marquez having been linked to several clubs including Tottenham, a move for Erkin could be on the cards.

Erkin already has seven international caps for Turkey to his name

Liverpool are reported to be interested in Espanyol defender Nicolas Pareja.

Rafa Benitez the Liverpool manager is looking to add to his side within a restricted budget and Pareja who would cost in the region of €6 Million is seen as an ideal acquisition.

Benitez seems to have a thing for Argentinian players and Pareja would be the fifth Argentinian at Anfield joining Javier Mascherano, Maxi Rodriguez, Emiliano Insua and Gerardo four fellow countrymen already in place at Anfield.

Pareja had been previously tracked by Tottenham but it was Espanyol that won the race to sign the 26 year old in 2008 and while they would be loathe to part with Pareja reports are that the player wants to play in the Premiership and Liverpool would be his perfect destination.

Time will tell how close to accuracy the reports linking Pareja to Anfield are

Valencia midfielder Ever Banega is keen on securing a summer move to Liverpool, Goal.com has learned.

It appears that Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is set to raid his former club.

Now it is believed that Banega is fully in favour of a move to Anfield, despite the lack of UEFA Champions League football on Merseyside next season.

Sources close to the 21-year-old central midfielder have told Goal.com Spain that the Reds have put on the table a four-year contract, which has delighted the midfielder, paving the way for a move which would see him link up with fellow Argentinians Javier Mascherano and Emiliano Insua.

It is understood that Liverpool have made a bid of around £8.5 million [€10m], Banega's buyout clause, but is considerably less than the £15m [€18m] los Che paid Boca Juniors to take him from the Bombonera two years ago.

Since leaving his home country, Banega has endured an up-and-down time in Spain, struggling to settle at first and being the subject of a fairly embarrassing 'video scandal'.

He was loaned out to Atletico Madrid and monitored by Everton, but was eventually recalled by coach Unai Emery and realised his potential this season. Alongside David Villa and Silva, Banega was hailed as one of the key components in Valencia's team, who have secured third place in La Liga behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Valencia's financial problems are well publicised and despite talk of potential big-money departures from the Mestalla, such as David Villa, Silva and Juan Mata, the transfer income from such sales would not be sufficient to get anywhere near clearing their debt, which is now in excess of £511m [€600m]. As a result, every player is unofficially for sale this summer in what could be another make-or-break transfer window for the club.

Liverpool are hoping to make a successful move for German international starlet Mesut Ozil this summer.

Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the Werder Bremen attacker and hopes that he can convince the Bundesliga club to accept an offer in the region of £8m for the 21 year old.

The former Schalke man reportedly has just one year left on his contract and may well be interested in a move to the Premier League and would no doubt be excited by interest shown in him by the Anfield outfit.

Rafa Benitez is looking for more creativity in his midfield and is apparently most interested in Ozil's ability to play in a number of different positions.

The well built Bremen man can play across the midfield as well as effectively on both wings but perhaps most interestingly can be used in the hole behind the strikers.

A number of sides are reportedly interested in Ozil with Arsenal being one side who has repeatedly linked with a move for his services and has been in sparkling form this term weighing in with nine goals and 17 assists which have helped his side to a third placed finish and a coveted Champions League spot.
