Fair play though, it was worth it for another look at his avatar. Come to that, where's the other bloke with the bird unzipping the wetsuit thing?

He could be if he could try and spend more time on the pitch than on the treatment table.

Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Much better than Kewell though. Seriously though, that's the kind of figure we shouldn't dismiss. It's ok you dismiss that kind of figure if you're going to be third option (like Owen case) but not if you plan the replacement is going to start regularly.

Kinell, a transfer request?  It's a bit sad it's come to this.  Not that Rafa should have sold him already but that Xabi wants out so bad.  I wish him well, of course, after 5 good years of loyal service but this whole thing has tarnished my view of the lad, no question. :(

I am not sure on which side to lay the blame Bob. I think Rafa could have done a little more to keep him. He seems to have been more interested in the price for Alonso rather than just saying "not for sale" as he did with Masch and Torres. However if Alonso had made it clear there was no way he was staying........

I will wait till the rumours come out before condeming him, or at least until the sale goes through as nothing is ever definate with transfers until they are completed....... remember Gerrard!

Let him go, we don't need players around that don't want to play for the red shirt any more. Rafa should have seen this coming and get Diego in time. He should address this problem sooner than later.
Anyway, thanks Xabi for the 5 wonderful years with us!

It's certainly going to be an interesting couple of weeks that's for sure. I'm sure Rafa has got something up his sleeve which nobody knows about. From the Alonso sale I'd expect two players to come in rather than one superstar.

True enough, mate.  For the record, I'm not considering him some sort of Judas now--I'm just disappointed.  It seems that Alonso's been looking for a move away from Anfield all summer and I suspect Rafa's known that since May.  Some will no doubt see that as justified given what we know about Rafa's personality and how Alonso was treated last year.  I don't discount that but I'm also disappointed in Alonso for hitching his wagon to Madrid's rebuilding project rather than looking to help finish what's been started here.

But, if we are truly arriving at the end game phase of proceedings with Madrid it's critical to wrap this up quickly now and move on with our own rebuilding plans.  The only thing that's certain is that we need to turn around and spend some money to compensate for the loss.  Whether that be on a new CM or in another part of the squad, we need to bring in another quality player to offset the fact that we're losing one.  No pulling a Wenger here and sitting on the cash, crowing that we're good enough as is.
