Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has claimed that Xabi Alonso's proposed move to Real Madrid would be a 'dream come true' for the Spaniard.

The Polish stopper - who played alongside the midfielder during the Reds' historic Champions League win in 2005 - swapped Anfield for the Bernabeu two years ago and claims that the former Real Sociedad playmaker told him that he is eager to play for Los Blancos.

“I spoke to him just before the holidays,” said Dudek.

“He is a very nice lad and he knows what is the best for him.

"But he cannot do anything without Benitez. So I don’t know (what will happen), but he is a good player without question, one of the best midfielders in the world.

“He is Spanish and all the Spanish guys want to play for Real Madrid. This is a dream come true for them and Xabi knows that he’s not the only one.”

5 live - Guillem Ballague on now, saying Xabi has had enough of Benitez, he wants to leave and that a deal will be done in 48 hours for 30 million euro. Says Benitez is very hard to work for.......

I am totally fu.cking sick of this saga to be honest.

Benitez should set a dealine for Madrid to meet the asking price, and if they don't the deal is off. That's what Villa did to us last summer over Barry and as much as I dislike O'Neill, it's the best way to do it. Something tells me Benitez would quite like the 30 million to play with though which is why he hasn't completely called the deal off. He can't mess around too long though, the season isn't far away.
