Rafa tried to sell Alonso last Summer and use the money to replace him with Barry. I think we can take it as a given then that at that point Rafa thought that Barry was the better player as far as Liverpool was concerned. I didn't/don't agree with him and said so at the time, but there were others who's disagreement was much more vociferous.  Now there's talk of us signing Scott Parker, and once again people are quite happy to passionately disagree (as they absolutely should be) and there's talk that we may let Alonso go, and there's people writing off our title chances based on the sale of one player.

I've got absolutely no problem with any of that, I'm just curious why if you disagree with Rafa over Alonso/Barry you don't want "big Sam yeah  " as manager? Why is it possible as a Joe punter to know more about Spanish International midfielders than our esteemed manager, but not to know more about Spanish International centre forwards? why is it disrespectful to him to say he's got it wrong on rotation/delayed gazelle/styling but OK to completely disagree with him visa vis new transfer possibilities? Very odd.

In Rafa I trust-as long as he does things which I agree with :D

And I'm fickle

  , had me stitches , good post BM!  :D

Report: Manchester City To Launch Ambitious Bid For Liverpool's Xabi Alonso
Real Madrid may soon have a rival in their quest for Alonso's signature, with Man City looking to splash more cash...

While the football world is expecting Xabi Alonso to move to Real Madrid, Manchester City are plotting an audacious bid of their own for the Liverpool star.

The Alonso saga has dragged on all summer, with the player appearing keen to move to the Bernabeu.

However, as that deal continues to linger in limbo, Man City are preparing a bid. According to The Daily Express, the Citizens are now willing to match Alonso's £35 million valuation, and could even increase their bid to fend off Los Merengues.

It is unlikely that Alonso would choose City over Madrid, but should Los Blancos pull out of the race, Mark Hughes' side are ready to pounce.

******************************************************************

Anyways ill ask this again.. if City are willing to pay say 40mill and Madrid refuse to go higher than 24mill or whatever it is theyr offering now... should we accept the ManCity bid and try to use the money to improve different areas of our squad ? or should they be taken seriously as title rivals in which case any sort of money wouldnt matter since we wouldnt want to improve their side even more ?
Personally, id take anything higher than 35mill from them and look to use the money wisely to bring in top players to improve our side... The way i see it, we'r much closer to being a title winning side than they are, and if we can bring in a couple of top players to the side we'd have to be seen as favourites to win the title next year (with or without Alonso).... Would rather he moved to Madrid if hes insisting on moving but if ManCity offer stupid money then i think we should accept it...

All this, assuming he'd even consider moving to ManCity, which im sure many will think is beyond ridiculous but anyways....  :)

Javiers agent is at it again

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is keen to secure a move to Spain as he has grown 'tired of life in England', according to his agent.

The Argentina international is a reported target of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but the enforcer remains part of Reds manager Rafa Benitez's plans.

However, Mascherano's representative, Walter Tamer, has claimed the 25-year-old has grown unsettled in the Premier League and is eager to move abroad.

Tamer is quoted by Infobae.com as saying: "Barcelona is the easiest deal to set up as Javier wants to go to Spain. He is tired of life in England.

"His wife has not been given a permanent visa. She has to go through an odyssey each time she wants to go.

"Liverpool refuse to sell, this can be overcome with an extraordinary offer."

well it seems to be picking up pace the Mascherano thing again.. Sky amongst others reporting it now... Dont know if Barcelona would be willing and able to afford whatever valuation Rafa puts on him... if his whole wife thing is true then i kind of feel bad for the guy... hope they figure it out soon because this cant be good for us before the start of such an important season...

The only way I can see Barca being able to afford a deal for Masch is if they pay up say £20 something mil and throw in a good player like Bojan or Toure. But Toure has only just signed a new contract so not sure if they could do that. Masch needs to balls up and say what he want's, not be told what to do by his missus.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.
