The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

If Alonso leaves we will have to make big changes to our formation, unless Martinez can fill his boots.

We would get that Negrado guy who does actually look farely good and is a possibility to play alongside Torres and we would then have to drop Gerrard back a bit into a sort of aggresive distributor position. I dont think Monster Masch would be able to control the pace of the play like Xabi does, he is better at breaking up play.

Balague on Alonso

Just then on Sky sports news saying that Perez reckons he has got a deal in place for Alonso

but admitted Alonso will only go if......

He says that he wants to leave he must announce it to us  or

Real Madrid offer 40-50 million

Alonso can't be all the fúcking year saying he loves the club and now announce us he wants to rediscover his football, FFS. It would be very annoying to me if he said that all of a sudden.

So I hope Rafa only accepts Xabi going if we receive a ridiculous offer of 45-50. With that money you can do too many things to say no, as much as I love Xabi's game.

Barry to City for 12M? well that must mean that Rafa didn't truly want him, because I can't see Barry preffering to go to City instead of Liverpool

I'd say Alonso is a 20mill player on a good day.. any offer of 25mill or more and we'll be accepting the bid i think... 30mill or more and i expect Rafa to walk him to Madrid personally... i'd say the 22mill reports from yesterday were about right.. maybe add in Heinze who is worth absolutely nothing in my books but thats just to make the deal seem better i guess...

20-25mill is about right and i would expect us to sell Alonso for such a fee but with Barry off to City we'll either need to find a good replacement for Xabi who would fit in our current system (Gago would be a good option but cant really think of many who would be realistic targets)OR make sure we bring in players who would fit in the new system we'll be playing... Im guessing 4-4-2 and ill go out and predict that we'll sign Tevez, Johnson and fail to realize that Kuyt as a right winger in a 4-4-2 is cack and cant do a job...

Alternatively, we keep Xabi and go from there...

I'm with that. I'm not sure what to make of Barry's move to City. If it means Xabi is staying put then i'm delighted, but if the club go ahead and sell him then i'm pis...s.ed because Barry is as close as you can get to a ready made replacement for Alonso. Surely we would have matched City's offer IF there is a very real possibility that Alonso could be heading to Madrid, surely? I hope so coz even if the club could get 20-22 million for the player I don't really see a replacement out there. As good as Benitez is at acquiring quality central midfielders, it is out wide and upfrotn where the budget needs to be spent. Please out this Xabi nonsense t bed and focus on the real problems at Full Back, the wing and upfront.

It's not as simple as that though, you would have to replace Xabi as well otherwise we'll be very short in the middle. I don't know anyone who really trusts Lucas to do the job be it 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 and for all his qualities, Masch is a bit of a water-carrier with the ball at his feet. OK, the manager could slot Gerrard back into central-mid and use the money to buy someone like Tevez to play in the hole but it looks clear that Gerrard is set to continue in that role next season. Even if their offer is as big as the £22 million being reported (that's a lot for a holding midfielder) I still wouldn't take the money. The spine of this side is fantastic. See if we can offload Babel and Dossena for a few quid, KEEP the rest of the squad intact, buy in an impact player with some versatility, Aguero (my new Arshavin) fits the bill for me, or Silva would do it and then see what's left in the pot for another Right Back.

That's right - rip out a top-notch kitchen and sell it on so you can afford to add a top-notch bedroom.

Gimp.
