The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

Bah Aussie style, if that was true he would asked the exit one month ago, not in the middle of August.

And despite performing well and re-establishing himself in the starting XI during the last third of the season

Plus what kind of travestry is this? "Performed well?" Alonso performed well under par every game of last season, and anyone who suggest the opposite is his agent or Spanish.

I think Rafa's recent comments may have persuaded Alonso his future lies elsewhere Sabre. Maybe the talks didn't go as well as Alonso expected on his future? When the manager is using the non-sale of Alonso as a stone to throw at Parry, it can't be a moral booster , can it ?

I would not be surprised if Alonso said he wants to go.  The club have been trying to sell him and at no time since the Juve deal broke down has the club said his wanted.  If a player doesnt feel wanted then its likely the form will drop.

So Sabre you think this Alonso story is BS? I hope so. Then again I dont blame him if its true. If I was being told to wait until my club got my replacement then id want to leave too.

Bav, we all know thinking in the worst case scenario. It's a possibility that as S@int says the chat between Rafa and Alonso didn't go that well. Perhaps it's possible even there were louder words than normal, for all we know, they may aswell have shared kisses in the lips and laughed about all this transfer saga being a way to press the owners to sign up Barry at any cost.

But even in the worst case scenario, if Alonso thinks selfishly he should try to play and train as well as possible, and tell the agent to do his job for winter or next summer. But right now, in a hurry, he can't go anywhere, decent that is because Rafa won't agree a low teens offer -- which still is an indicator of the position of Rafa, because many of you would have accepted a 14M offer.

I don't know if this story is BS but certainly I distrust these articles without quotes. We know to speculate in newkit and the journos know too, the difference being they do that for a living and they have to write something to live. So they speculate and write often and will be fueling any story.

I also think that if he really wanted to go he would have said something to Rafa so as to not play in midweek which would cup tie him if he moved to any other big club in Europe.

Makes you wonder if Alonso would have come on but for Plessis' injury? Thought he had a great game today though, both defensively and with the ball.

I think rafa would have put it on some time later but i don't think he would have had the same effect . Some of his passes were sloppy but overall he was good . We should have babel back for next week and is a huge plus and i maybe selfish for saying this but i hope brazil beat argentina and we have mascherano back as well

RAFA Benitez’s defiant stance on Gareth Barry is forcing Xabi Alonso to seek an Anfield exit before the end of the month.

Alonso has become disillusioned with his manager’s refusal to back down on his pursuit of the £18million replacement from Villa.

And although the 26-year-old Spaniard is now cup-tied from Europe, he has decided his relationship with Benitez (below) is beyond repair.

Alonso was furious to discover he had been offered to several European clubs without his knowledge over the summer — many of whom he would never have entertained joining.

He feels he has been treated with a lack of respect.

Any hope that the overwhelming support he received from The Kop last week would heal the fractured wounds have been swiftly erased — but the club are not prepared to sell him on the cheap.

Benitez wanted Alonso sold to Juventus last summer, but at the time the player had shown no desire to leave and Liverpool never got a formal offer from the Italians.

Arsenal’s interest has also failed to lead to a bid. Benitez had no option but to use Alonso against Standard Liege in midweek due to Javier Mascherano’s Olympic duty and an injury to Steven Gerrard.

That will make him a less attractive target for the top European clubs.

Backlash

The Liverpool boss is now awaiting the Americans’ response to his refusal to give up on Barry.

They are known to be unimpressed by his latest antics, but are also wary of provoking another furious backlash from The Kop if they go head-to-head with their belligerent manager.

Worryingly for Rafa, the feuding owners are talking to each other again as they unite on the Barry issue, although they seem powerless to censure him given their experiences last season.

They wanted the manager to privately reassess options after they said they weren’t prepared to pay £18million for Barry.

But club sources insist the owners never ruled out the possibility of resurrecting the Barry deal in future and were prepared to await further developments.

RIFT - Rafa Benitez
They are staggered the manager has broken from the club line to air his grievances on the eve of the season. For his part, Benitez feels undermined because the club were prepared to pay £18million two weeks ago but then changed their mind.

Sources close to Benitez claim he almost resigned over the Barry affair and the timing of that leak ahead of yesterday’s league game at Sunderland upset all levels of the club, as did the revelation Benitez tried to delay the recent purchase of Robbie Keane until AFTER Barry was signed.

The Spanish boss will not take no for an answer on Barry. He believes he can exploit the two loopholes in the club statement on him.

If Alonso leaves he will need to be replaced. A Villa u-turn on the fee would also open the door for the deal to be resurrected.

Both eventualities remain fraught with uncertainty, which is why the board wanted other avenues discussed.

An Anfield source said: “Xabi doesn’t really want to leave Liverpool because he loves the fans and club.

“The Kop’s reaction last week meant the world to him but he has been put in a very difficult position over the summer. If a top Euro- pean side came in for him he feels he’d have no choice but to go.

“It’s a very difficult position for a player when he feels the manager doesn’t believe in him anymore and it’s clear Rafa is determined to replace him with Barry.”

I hope Alonso will stay because if we compare Alonso and GB , I think Alonso is a better player and I don't any "value" added to Liverpool  if we buy GB at 18M. Bad business.

That article that has brought S@int is Liverpool echo's or yet another story from London?

If it's the former I'd be worried, but if it's the latter, it's yet another story. If Alonso was that angry he would have done signs like other players, just like Crouch did in some interviews yesteryear for instance.
