There were two seperate agendas going on with Heighways future plans conflicting with Houllier's "one Europe" idea where players with promise from his area of influence took places off the homegrown talent.
I really do think that Houllier believed that his master plan was the way forward it was not that he didn't rate the local talent - it was just that he did not realise the value of tradition, the way in which a local lad's friends and family can put pressure on a lad to go that extra yard.
"The Liverpool Way" does exist and is important- it's built on pride ,and it must be hard to come from a completely different culture and become part of it.
I just don't think Houllier realised this,or valued it.
The Academy will work - but it's got to be on methods that work.
