Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby 7_Kewell » Sun Feb 08, 2026 9:10 pm

Beaten by a very average city side.

Go up with a worldie from a freekick and then step back and try to see the game out with everyone behind the ball.

F@@king shambles. And an embarrassment at home.

Cowardly tactics.

That was tough to take at the end. Get ourselves ahead and then just fall apart.

1st half was dire. Couldnt even register a shot on target. We did come out better in the 2nd and had spells where we were clearly the better side but still couldnt create anything meaningful. Our midfield is just nonexistent and far too many of our players are happy to drop to the ground at the slightest touch. Ali had a mare also. Few incidents of sloppy play and gave away a needless pen. Then lost his head running up the pitch which led to the 3rd. It got ruled out but cost us our best player now for a game. How does Salah keep getting every minute possible when his performances dont justify it. Slot is afraid to take him off. Gakpo is another who offers nothing, stealing a living he is.

Just dissapointing to lose it in that manner again. Couldnt even hold on for a draw. Feels like 2 steps back again!!

Lucho bagged a hat trick today for Bayern. Him or Gakpo. Absolute no brainer...

Didn't perform well, could've been a few down first half. 2nd half we did better but shame we couldn't hold onto the lead. Keeps them in title hunt, puts a sting in our ucl aspirations. 4-5 points behind Chelsea/United which isn't much but they've kicked in gear with new manager bounce. Neighbours are 2 points behind us also lol.

"Liverpool have now conceded four 90th-minute winners in league matches this season - the joint-most by a team in a single Premier League campaign after Watford in 2017-18, West Ham in 2021-22, Watford again in 2021-22, and Southampton in 2024-25."

Reversing what we did first few games.

We've got a big summer ahead of us here. Its gotta be cutthroat here because this season has been abysmal!!  Players like Macca, Gravenberch, Konate, Gakpo, Salah have to be evaluated. All these guys have massively underperformed this season.. Which is insane as all these players have played unbelievable at a very high standard, but the drop off in all has really cost us this season.

Mate, if they do replace any or all of those players, I don't think I trust slot to get the best out of whoever comes in. If there is an overhaul on the pitch, the manager needs to go too

I agree, it has to start with the manager. How do we lose 8 games out of 25 with the players we have. Slot hasn't identified the kind of player we need, hes just brought in "upgrades" on the players he felt were underperforming or left the club. I also can't believe he changed the double pivot of Macca and Grav, and turned them into box to box no8s. That decision has left our whole midfield vulnerable all season.

just watched the highlights. He scored 3 and got awarded the 2 penalties that Kane converted on top of that. We do miss a tricky direct winger.

Gakpo and Salah need to go. The former is a bit part player and the latter is unable to compete at this level anymore.
Macca i dont think has been that bad tbf. I think his problem is that if all our mids are fit he goes to the bench because he cant drop Szob, He cant drop Wirtz and wont drop Gravenberch.
Gravenberch for me doesnt want to be a 6 long term and overall a bit weak for that position anyway.
Konate is a good player but wont sign a contract. His future is out of our hands.

Last season was phenomenal and it was because of workrate that just isnt there anymore. On the wings especially. Players like Diaz, Jota and Nunez werent world beaters but had really high workrate drilled into them by Klopp. Slot doesnt want to play like that so we dont. A replacement should have been brought in for Diaz instead of trusting Gakpo who had already shown he wasnt good enough to take that role. Jota and Nunez where replaced by Hugo who has performed and Isak who got injured. Salah has no competition and that was a mistake. His stats where great last year but the decline was there to see. This year he is struggling for pace and cant for the life of him beat a player. His shooting was always 1 in 5 and sometimes 10.
The midfield balance is wrong and we got away with that last season because of the workrate from the front which isnt there anymore. They are all 10's and none of them are ball winners.

What we did sign hasnt been that bad either. Kerkhez is decent. Etitike is a massive improvement on Nunez. Isak has been unfortunate with injuries but will come good. Give him 5 chances and he will net at least 4. Frimpong has shown glimpses he can be good but cant stay fit long enough. Leoni was unfortunate also but was never gonna be the heart of our defence anyway.

We need a centre half,  A proper ball winning 6 and a better left winger. Id sacrifice Mac or Grav then Jones and Chiesa to achieve this.  A big part of me feels that would be moot anyway if Slot continues to stick with that style. He just keeps doing the same thing without addressing the glaring issues that keep costing us points. That hunger and tenacity to win games just isnt there this season and thats down to him.

Difficult to say anything other than that was the most embarrassing first half I have seen LIVERPOOL play in quite some time and that’s including all the dross we have played this season. The only thing that did amaze me was that we actually got into a winning position for that to quite quickly fizzle out. I fully appreciate that we have had a considerable amount of bad luck with injuries however the players on the pitch just aren’t doing it. I am not sure that Slot is the answer to fix this in the long-term.

How very disappointing that we screwed up the biggest game of the season.

I thought in UCL we may have a decent run in but I think will struggle when we face an EPL side.

Id love nothing more than to win the CL but considering how we are playing its a monumental task. The knockout phase is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Just seen some stats :
Collectively City ran 10 more kilometres than our team. Lads at the game said our players were flat out knackered on their feet at 70 mins ….
It seems to back up the point that the training the game preparation is wrong . They are just not fit enough or sufficiently well organised to be a top Prem side …
They are being trained to be a half decent Dutch league side not a Premiership team ….
They've not been fit all season - Slots main man Heitinga left along with two other back room trainers end of last season - they’ve brought in second tier no marks trainers with no experience of top level football ….

We are being outran in 9 out of every 10 games Reg. Its been happening since last season.

Its down to Slots tactics and not wanting to continue with Klopps high octane style of pressing. I remember him saying he wanted a controlled possession based "symphony" focusing on building through a 4.2.3.1 instead of 4.3.3. Its all about a patient build up focused on ball retention. He wasnt a fan of the end to end chaos i think he called it. As a result of that i wouldnt think they are pushing the players hard in training and thats why we see such a drop off late in games. The coaches coach the style he demands they do.

I said it ages ago that its like watching the second coming of Ten Hag!!
