Not quite putting your money where your mouth is, but who thinks Torres will start? Just a bit of fun, maybe a one-off, to see who thinks Torres will start in a league game for the first time since Derby on 1st September

Torres 2006/7

Premiership : 6 appearances, 3 goals
Started : P4 W3 D1 L0 F11 A2 - goals 3
As Sub : P2 W0 D2 L0 F0 A0 - goals 0

Champions League/Carling Cup : 3 appearances, 3 goals
Started : P2 W1 D1 L0 F5 A3 - goals 3
As Sub : P1 W1 D0 L0 F1 A0 - goals 0

Ratio wise he's starting as many league games as cup games, performance wise he's not scored as a sub and Liverpool clearly score more goals when he starts - Liverpool have scored 16 goals in 6 games he's started and just 1 goal in the 3 games he's been sub

He'll play. Away games are where Torres pace will come in especially useful. As I've said previously, I think Torres would have played at Pompey had we not had the international break.

If he doesn't play it will prove Rafa is a spiteful little sh1t who is not playing Torres purely to annoy the fans, there is no reason whatsoever why he wouldn't play him otherwise. If he doesn't play and Liverpool draw or loose the pressure on Rafa will increase a hell of a lot.

Very insightful. I'm sure spiting the very fans he considers 'the best', comes into his decision making. Rafa Benitez researchs the ars e off the opposition, gets every stat possible on the conditioning of his own players, but at the last minute says, nah fck all that, i won't pick Torres, that'll pis s them off.

BTW i can see a reason he may not play.....if injured. Theres one.
Thats a very silly post.

I think he will, but the last reason for that will be that he makes what the press ask. I think he will because I doubt we won't see Torres in many away games. In away games oppo tends to seek you more, they leave more spaces, and Torres is a must.

Torres will play against deep defences too, don't get me wrong, but in away games it will be even more likely to see him. We might not see him when there's international breaks AND european games AND the opposition suggest another player could be equally or more useful AND that will help Torres to be fully ready for the next league game.

So, you'll only be unhappy not to see Torres when a lot of ANDS concur. My bet is that Torres will play against Wigan. If he doesn't then I'll agree those who are unhapy with that.

I can't think of a single reason (outside of being injurerd) why he shouldn't play.

After the last 2 games ending up in a draw, Benitez knows this game against Wigan is very important. I think Torres will play, Benitez will pick almost a full strength team I think in order to get back on track in the legaue and put the pressure on Arsenal (who Lauro predicts to lose to West Ham)

My god the thought, please Rafa you have got to be playing him.

Hell play, and start all the games in the League over the next month or so at least. Lets face it, he needs to. Our good start has now become only an average one despite having very easy fixtures, and this next month is going to be all about digging in and staying in contention. You wouldn't want to be drawing at home to Spurs and getting beat at Everton for instance as before you know it you could easily be seven or eight points behind. If that does happen, keeping players sharp for Cup finals next year may become a reality.

Expect to see at least eight or nine players featuring in all our League games in the near future, of which obviously Torres and Gerrard are two. Rafa will be well aware (honestly he really will be) that now is not the time for fecking around and trying to be clever, eight points from our next four games would be the absolute minimum we would require I would have thought. If that is somewhere near where he expects us to be, nothing less than win at Wigan is a good result.
