Valencia defender Mauricio Pellegrino looks to be on his way to Liverpool on a free transfer, with the Spanish side confirming The Reds are interested.
The veteran Argentinian stopper has recently agreed on a deal with the Spanish side to leave in January, despite his current deal running until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old said he would prefer to leave Claudio Ranieri's side in January, and he could be on his way to Anfield to join his former Mestalla boss Rafa Benitez.
Valencia director Manuel Llorente has confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing Pellegrino.
"Pellegrino's agent has told us Liverpool are interested in the player but the move has yet to Materialise," said Llorente.
"The player has a contract until June but we have agreed with Pellegrino to allow him to field offers from other clubs and will allow him to leave on a free transfer."
Benitez has said that he is looking to improve his squad as a whole in the transfer window, and Pellegrino would offer some experienced cover at the back.
Pellegrino has played just a handful of games for the Che so far this term, and has targeted a move to The Premiership to play out the remainder of his career.
Benitez is not afraid to cast an eye back to Spain to bring in new recruits, with Xabi Alonso, Josemi, Luis Garcia and Antonio Nunez already at Anfield.
More Primera Liga exports seem certain to arrive on Merseyside in January, with Pellegrino looking like joining Fernando Morientes.
Benitez confirmed that The Reds are still working on a deal to bring the Real Madrid outcast to Anfield to swell his injury-hit squad. seen the boy play for valancia in the cup winnig team good playa a bit old though
