People do different things, sometimes they work out, sometimes they dont, Owen was offered the chance to go to madrid, maybe he should have showed more commitment but he wanted to move, so what, deal with it, its been two years and im sure hes gone over it in his head a million times "what if i would have stayed" If he had of stayed, who is to say we would be where we are now.

And also the club fu*ked up big time with Macca so dont just blame him for going on a free.

If Macca wants his kids to be Everton supporters than that's upto him, it's his kids and his life. Of course most parents do try and get their kids to support the same teams as they do, it's only natural.

I think before people start judging Owen too harshly they should just try to see things as they were at Liverpool before the Rafalution. Liverpool had just had a terrible season and seemed to have taken a big step backwards (especially as Chelsea now had more money than god). Heskey,Owens' favourite strike partner had just been sold and Baros had just come back from Euro 2004 with a golden boot in his pocket(probably demanding play me or sell me)Cisse had arrived and would definately be given a chance. Owen had already shown he couldnt play with Baros, and Cisse and Owen didn't look like a match made in heaven. Houllier who for all his faults had always supported Owen had gone and a new "strange" Spanish manager had arrived. Gerrard had finally decided to give Rafa a chance but it certainly wouldnt have helped Owens mindset. I am sure Owen looked at the future with Liverpool and expected another 5 year plan ala Houllier's.
        Real Madrid who I honestly believe wern't all that interested in Owen but saw the chance of a bargain then come knocking. The chance for cups and european glory was guaranteed (lol). Can you honestly blame him for going. Remember he didnt set the price of his transfer,and his contract with Real was less than what Liverpool were offering.
        Did Owen let Liverpool down ? maybe. Would I have him back ? In a heartbeat. He would be the ideal partner for Crouch imho and you never know perhaps he could also form a partnership with Morientes ala Raul and save Moros' Liverpool career.

I watched Owen and Morientes play along side each other a couple of times when they were both at Madrid and they worked well together. Morientes being the target man, helped link up play and set up and Owen was there to finish it off.

But what use is that partnership when Morientes can't adjust to the pace and physical nature of the Premiership and Owen's always on the treatment table?

It's nice on paper two of Europe's finest players but in reality it just wouldn't work.

Morientes is NOT and NEVER has been a target man.  He played in a deep role for Madrid, then as a more lead-the-line forward for Monaco, but still not a target man.  For us he certainly has not been a target man.

There are 2 types of target man Oasis.

1.  The big lad (eg Crouch) who you can play direct balls to from deep and he can hold up play and bring others into the game.

2.  The quick, mobile striker who will continually make runs down the channels so you can pick him out with early balls from back to front (eg the role Baros performed during our CL-winning campaign)

Morientes is neither, so could you please stop wrongly and continually referring to him as a target man?  Cheers

Personally I appreciate the job he did for us while he was at Anfield but as for how he feels today I couldn't give a feck. He no longer plays for liverpool nor appears to have abiding feelings for them and as a result is far from my thoughts.

I know he looked after No1 throughout the madrid transfer but can we really be surprised at a modern footballer doing that. So I don't really understand some of the levels of venom being directed towards him, don't loose any sleep over it, he's moved on, so should we!

Good points, mate...hindsight is 20/20 but at the time, given the circumstances, I'm sure some of us would have made the same decision as Mikey if it were us.

Having said that, he could have been more upfront about the whole situation, I think, but whatever...what's done is done.

As for having him back, I'm fairly luke warm to the idea.  It might be brilliant or a huge letdown.  His injury problems are a significant worry and I wonder about how he and Rafa would get on.  He wouldn't be the main man anymore, that's for sure, and would have to work hard to slot into the existing team structure.  I suspect he'd have the maturity to take that on but it would certainly be a question in my mind were we to re-sign him.

No way. Its probably the end for people like Chopra or Ameobi. If Newcastle managed to get Defoe that could turn out to be quite a strike force. On the other hand i dont think Defoe would go there as he wants to play for a top club to further his England ambitions.
