The following has been e-mailed to me by a guy i know who works for liverpool football club. I don't know what to make of it though.

Liverpool will confirm the signing of Djibril Cisse & Phillippe Mexes for a combined total of £15 million at a press conference on the 1/7/04, with Pongolle and Le Tallec going on loan in return.

What do you make of this possibility?

£15m is way too much, I might gamble maybe as much as £7m - £10m combined.

I've heard a loan deal from Chelski for none other than Mr Joe Cole !!!!!!

I would take all three players you have mentioned AND keep Le Tallec and Pongolle.

Probably a rumour, but the Cisse deal is as about as concrete as you can get in football without the deal being actually done.

Cisse says he's coming, his agent says he's coming, Guy Roux says he is coming, the Auxerre president says he's coming, and although Liverpool have denied the deal is done, they haven't denied he is coming either.

Mexes looks an ok player to me. There was a lot of hype about him a year or two ago, but I saw him play recently and he looked like a reasonable player.

Sending Pongolle and Le Tallec back to France at this stage is strange...fair enough they would probably get a fulls season of football in France but they have both featured a lot for Liverpool this season and wouldn't sending them off on loan now be a step backwards?

I mean, you don't see Man UTd or Arsenal sending Christiano Ronaldo and Jose Reyes away on loan.

It will be wrong to send them back to France on loan season, look at what happen this early season, we lost so many of players because of long term injuries, we could have Neil Mellors to cover for Owen or Baros, so we need a full squad players for next season and no more loan again, so we cannot afford to make another mistake.

Mexes doesn't impressed me, I don't rate him that good, we need a pacey centre back, so Mexes is not really pacey centre back to me.

Thats last summers news only with Boumsong inplace of Mexes.

I been told that Mexes is going to Man Utd this summer, like his agent said Man Utd. His agent never mentioned Liverpool, really I don't want him! No more French players!!!

Nothing is done till the fat woman sings and if GH does go I cannot see Cisse coming for another manager - he (Cisse) knows when he's on to a good thing.

Sending back Pongolle and Le Tellec would seem stupid. Both of them have shown signs of adapding to the pace of English football - Why send them to play in somewhat dodgy French league when they are making good progress here. Especially Pongolle who is always an option coming off the bench.
