Tonights game - Pre match thoughts

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

so here we stand, one game away from the champions league group stage, and tonights game is already throwing up more questions than answers. to be honest, i couldn't tell you what the team will be that starts the game but considering the fact that the tie should already be more than over, the personnel should not really matter. it seems obvious to me that rafa's making the super cup his priority but is still approaching the game tonight with caution:

"we're in a good position and i've told my players that if we score early it will all be over. however we must show respect to sofia because they have a strong side offensively".

i'd agree with him here. if we score early on the tie will be finished. however it cannot be easy stiking a balance between keeping in control of the game and giving some of our so called "squad players" a runout. i don't think gerrard would have started the game even if he was fit but we could really do with him on friday. it has already been confirmed by benitez that hamann will start and i wouldn't be surprised to see scott carson in nets. surely john arne riise will play, having been left out in the cold for the last few games and darren potter will probably get some action aswell.

whatever the case, i'm expecting more from our front two, who aren't exactly setting the world on fire at the moment. they both scored in the first leg and here's hoping that they get on the scoresheet again tonight. with crouch likely to return from injury soon, competition for places can only be a good thing.

bring it on :buttrock

Is Crouch fit? I think he will play Crouch and Cisse upfront tonight, Riise and Hamann brought back into the fold and Potter.

Crouch is not fit yet, though I think he'll play against Tottenham or maybe CSKA Moscow. We'll see

im actually quite looking forward to it. having a few friends round, watch the game and just enjoy liverpools progression to the group stage :;):

about the match, i don't think it would be wise to put out a overly-inexperienced side out. CSKA will play like there's no tomorrow and try everything to even get a goal

even so, it shouldn't be too much of a problem

This is a big game for Cisse. If he plays well he will stay, and if he doesn't well he going. I hope not because he the Next john Barnes.
